The wild and wacky format of Spoke the Hub's annual WINTER FOLLIES! showcase is designed to shake off the winter doldrums!  20+ performing artists of any genre are given five minutes, and five minutes only, to do whatever it is they do best.  At evening's end, audience members vote on their favorite performers! Winners get free rehearsal space and more chances to perform.

A real smorgasbord of acts awaits the unsuspecting concert-going audience, from new and traditional dance to comedy and magic. There will be spanking new works; a few old and beloved pieces from the archives; improvisation; a wild experiment or two; solos and groups; young performers and seasoned ones.  Whatever it is these artists have concocted has been declared fair game.

Audience members fill out ballots that get tallied up - they choose which artists they would most like to see produced at Spoke the Hub's LOCAL PRODUCE FESTIVAL of the PERFORMING ARTS that is held in June, 2011.   Winning artists also receive a 50-hour rehearsal space grant and a full weekend's subsidized production in Spoke the Hub's upcoming season.

Artist-contenders are professional performers, most of whom live, work, or teach in Brooklyn. Among this year's artists are:

Anna Dengler (Acapella Barbershop); Gary Ferrar/Ah Real Magic; Adrian Jevicki/Movementpants (Dance Theater); Becky Radway Dance Projects (Contemporary); Eliza Ladd (Music, Dance and Clowning); Jasmine Dolcine (Liturgical Dance); Irene Siegel (Action Theater-based Improv); Sandi Carroll (Clowning); Kamaria Dailey (Afro-Contemporary Improv); Megan Brunsvold (Tap); Grace Drums (Percussion); Keith Thompson/Dance Tactics (Contemporary); Ballet International Africans; Shandoah Goldman (Dance Theater); Amber Sloan (Modern);  Danza Organica (Improvisation); Alexandra Taylor Dance (Contemporary/Modern);  Yoo and Dancers (Contemporary); Victoria Benzinger/Wobble Dance (Dance Theater); and others to be selected.
