Rahim Esfandyar-Pour speaks to the Academic Minute about how removing batteries from wearable tech can open it up to more people. Listen Now

Chair's Message

The Samueli School of Engineering just completed a strategic plan for 2030. You can find a description here. The plan, referred to as "Engineering Plus," calls for the school to reach out beyond the confines of the classroom and the campus to enhance our ability to fulfill our teaching and research mission. I am particularly excited about the part of the plan I was involved in that focuses on education. Our goals include items such as creating collaborative maker spaces where students can explore their own designs, senior capstone experiences that have industry participation and involve teams across departments, a formal co-op program enabling students to get on-the-job training that goes beyond short-term internships, and an overall increase in experiential learning for our students. Improving the educational experience for our EECS students is No. 1 on my list of priorities as the new department chair, and I am committed to making that happen. If you want to partner with us on this endeavor, don't hesitate to let me know!
