Winners Selected in Venerini Academy's 'Grades 5-8 Science Fair'
Top 3 Winners from Each Grade to Participate
in Worcester Diocese Science Fair
on May 16 at Assumption College

Worcester, MA - April 10, 2013 -Winners have been selected in the Venerini Academy "Grades 5-8 Science Fair," which was held yesterday in the school's Gym. The independent, Catholic, pre-kindergarten-3-through-Grade-8 school is located at 27 Edward St. in Worcester.
Venerini will send the top three winners from each grade to the Worcester Diocese Science Fair, which will be held on May 16 at Assumption College in Worcester.
Shown, below, during yesterday's "Grades 5-8 Science Fair," are the winners from Grades 5 and 6. Last names are not shown, per school policy:
- Left: Grade 5 winners, left to right: Clarisse, first place, "How do enzymes in detergents affect proteins?"; Nina, second place, "How does temperature affect magnetism?"; Eve, third place, "Does temperature affect how long static charges last?"; and Lettierose, honorable mention, "What type of light affects plant growth?"
- Right: Grade 6 winners, left to right: Alexander, third place, "Is bread-mold growth affected by the type of bread and light?"; Grace, second place, "Will processed foods have a higher glucose level than fresh foods?"; Jonathan, first place, "Is there a way to make flowers last longer?"; and Harrison, honorable mention, "What growing medium is best for plant growth?"

For the Science Fair, which is held every other year, students are required to use the Scientific Method, including completion of an experiment, on a topic of their choice. The Scientific Method includes questions, hypothesis, materials, procedures, results/data, and a conclusion.
Students need to keep a journal of daily entries about their projects and complete a Scientific Method Paper and a Research Paper. Each student is judged three times by three different judges. All judges are volunteers and include Venerini parents, grandparents, and former students who have expertise in the fields of science, engineering, computers, and medicine.
