We have some great events coming up this summer, capping the season with our annual 'Snake in the Glass' Passport Party! Do you have your reservations yet? Only 60 days left until the party and only 100 tickets! Don't wait too much longer- tickets are going fast! The Passport Party will be Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 6-10 pm at Silver Lake Winery.

Passport completers can invite two couples to attend the event as well! Bring friends and introduce them to the wonderful wines in the Rattlesnake Hills.

There are a few new items to look forward to at this year's event including: A Grand Prize Wine Weekend Getaway including a two-night stay at Zillah Lakes, a welcome basket when you arrive, a winemaker dinner, lunch at Silver Lake Winery, four Rattlesnake Hills wine glasses and Passports, a vineyard tour at Bonair Sunday morning and much more! We will also have wonderful gift basket giveaways from our wineries.

Passport party guests will be able to purchase the wines featured at the party at a discounted rate at the wineries the next day. Before you leave the party, simply place your order at the Rattlesnake Hills information table and your wine will be ready for you before you leave town Sunday!  Plus - all guests will be able to purchase new 2011 Passports at 50% the regular price at the party. The new Passport has a great new look with great information from each winery and a place to make tasting notes!

 

Don't want to drive to and from the party?

A&A Motorcoach (800.798.9856) is providing transportation if you'd rather leave the driving to someone else. For ONLY $17.50 roundtrip will be providing bus service to the event with pickups at all three sponsored hotels. Pickups will begin at 5pm, with a 10 minute load time at each hotel. The bus will return from the event at 9pm. If you do not take the bus, but choose to drive yourself, and find that you are worried about driving home following the event, you can purchase a seat (based on availability) on the bus that evening from an A&A driver. Roundtrip tickets for the bus can be purchased in advance from www.shopwineyakima.com (you'll need to know which hotel you'd like to be picked up from).

@ Piety Flats Winery: Come enjoy Barbecue John, his son Eric and Fiddler Kristi Hunzicker, at Piety Flats Winery on July 2nd - 2-5pm. Barbeque John is a longtime Yakima musician and the leader of the band Hot Barbeque.

They play an occasional original song, but mostly a blend of rockabilly, old country, western swing, reggae, rock 'n roll, cheesy pop, blues, bluegrass, Cajun, and whatever else they can think of. For more information go to www.pietyflatswinery.com

@ Knight Hill Winery:  "Friday Knight @ The Hill" is on July 22 from 6:30-9:30pm. It's $25 per person which includes wine tasting, dinner with glass of wine, music and dancing.  Wine by the glass or bottle is available to purchase as well. @ Masset Winery: Masset will have picnic supplies for the weekend of the 4th of July, including fresh baked breads, cheeses, fruit and Italian style cured meats.

Masset will have a sale on library wines for July, including Magnums of our 2005 Reserve Syrah (90 points Wine Spectator), 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon (91 points Enthusiast) as well as 2004 Petit Sirah and Sandra Jean Red Wine. Steve Hovanes

I am originally from New Zealand, although I have lived in the US for most of my life and am an American citizen.  I trained in winemaking  in New Zealand, graduating from Charles Sturt University with a degree in Wine Science.

 

I currently live in Yakima and have a daughter, Katy, who will be a senior at Smith College in Massachusetts next year.

 

I was at Silver Lake Winery for almost three years before moving to Hyatt and have previously worked at Esk Valley Estate and Tukipo River Estate wineries, both in the Napier, New Zealand area.

 

Prior to my winemaking career I worked as a mechanical designer in aerospace and commercial marine equipment.
