TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT & SPEED LIMITS
|
Windsor community members gathered on March 28, with the Windsor Police Department (WPD) and Public Works (PW) to discuss traffic enforcement and new proposed speed limit reductions in the Town.
The Town’s newly hired traffic enforcement officer (the Town’s second) was introduced and Chief Raasch reviewed the traffic collision and enforcement data that reflected progressively increasing enforcement in recent years and how that is having a positive impact on collisions.
| |
|
Public Works presented the legal and engineering requirements of how speed limits are set, and how recent engineering and traffic studies along with legislative changes are allowing reductions in speed limits to be proposed around Town. These proposed changes will be brought to the Town Council in the coming months.

After the presentations, there were robust discussions of community member concerns that generally focused on specific areas in and around the Town. Both the PD and PW staff appreciated the dialog with community members and went away with several areas for additional enforcement and consideration in future improvement projects.

Spring Cleaning?
Here’s a fire safety tip from SCFD to add to your cleaning list!
Fire Departments throughout the country respond to dryer fires every day. They are caused by a buildup of lint underneath the drum or in the vent. Every year, more than 16,000 fires are sparked by dryers. That accounts for almost 5% of all house fires! While the lint screen captures most of the lint, smaller particles pass through and build up on the bottom of the dryer... and the dryer duct vent.
| | |
|
Most people don’t realize that the area underneath the drum is open to the air flow and lint collects here even faster than it collects in the dryer duct. Over time, enough collects to catch fire due to the heating element... whether gas or electric. Check your owner’s manual about the best way to access this area and clean it out (make sure you unplug the dryer first). Also make sure that the dryer duct vent is cleaned regularly – this may also save money as clothes will dry faster. Dryer vents including under the drum should be cleaned twice a year to prevent these fires from starting.
