WATERSMART &

AUTOMATED METERING INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT

The Town of Windsor’s Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project is nearing completion if you haven’t enrolled in the Town’s WaterSmart Customer Portal (WaterSmart) now is the time. To enroll visit: https://www.townofwindsor.com/1183/WaterSmart.

WaterSmart isn’t just for paying utility bills online, it provides customers with valuable resources to better understand their water use. By logging in, customers have options to view current and past bills, learn ways to manage water use, enroll in leak and bill alerts, view options and recommendations, and so much more. As the Town switches to the new AMI network, additional functionality is made available automatically on WaterSmart.

Coming Soon! - The AMI / Interval Information in the Track and Billing Tabs in WaterSmart will help customers track and better understand where water is being used and how that water use will impact their bill. The Track and Billing Tabs will provide customers with the needed details to act quickly to eliminate potential high-water bills and the awareness to modify current watering practices. Customers will be able to navigate through the tabs to view:

  • Hourly and daily usage, in conjunction with billed consumption.
  • Comparisons of daily use to daily temperature and precipitation data.
  • Predicted bill, based on bill-to-date interval consumption.
  • Notice of potential leaks with date, amount, and when water usage started and stops.

Coming Soon! The Automated Leak Alerting will efficiently deliver key information to utility customers. Once alerted, customers can resolve their leak via WaterSmart’s self-service tools, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Customers will also have the option to customize messages by email or text if their daily use is higher than a level they set; or if their cumulative use, to date, for the billing period is putting them on track to get a high bill.

Should a customer experience high water consumption or a leak, the WaterSmart – High Bill Resolution tool will allow customers the ability to better understand the impacts to address quicky while providing additional resources or recommendations.

Throughout the AMI project, Town staff have been training in the new AMI system and learning about the enhanced features of WaterSmart to ensure the Town continues to provide the excellent customer service we are known for. If you have any questions, staff can assist over the phone, by email, in the office, or from the field. To contact us by phone call (707) 838-1004, email us at ub@townofwindsor.com, or visit us at 9291 Old Redwood Highway, Building 300 from 8AM – 5PM. You can also find additional information on the Town website at https://www.townofwindsor.com/98/Utility-Billing.

Remember to enroll in WaterSmart today at https://www.townofwindsor.com/1183/WaterSmart

A MESSAGE FROM WINDSOR POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Town of Windsor Police Department conducted a Driving Under the Influence (DUI)/Driver’s License (DL) checkpoint on December 30, on Old Redwood Highway. A total of 604 vehicles were screened resulting in 4 DUI arrests and 12 drivers cited/arrested for either being unlicensed or suspended/revoked driver licenses.

DUI/DL checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries to deter those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired, to bring more awareness, and to encourage sober designated drivers. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers as well as the public.

The Windsor Police Department is committed to increasing overall traffic safety and reducing the number of alcohol-related collisions. We will continue our efforts to locate and identify impaired drivers. Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 to $20,000 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

We would like to thank our law enforcement partners Petaluma Police Department, the Santa Rosa Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, and the California State Parks Rangers for their collaborative efforts and assistance. Funding for the DUI/DL Checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
