Hello Windsor!
The Town has been busy with projects such as new housing developments, updating our emergency plan, and the start of long-term infrastructure improvements at our wastewater treatment plant.
The Town Green is back in full swing with summer events for everyone to enjoy. The Town thrives on promoting events that create community, bring a sense of awareness, and unity. Many of the annual events are either Town sponsored or hosted by community organizations. Congratulations to all our graduating classes of 2023, I wish you all continued success! It is the season of dads and grads, and on June 18, we celebrate all our dads in our community, Happy Father’s Day.

JUNE 2023 - LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDER AND QUEER PRIDE MONTH | |

On June 7, the Town Council proclaimed June 2023, as “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Pride Month”. Windsor’s LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) communities represent an integral part of our community and our Town’s well-being. These LGBTQ+ communities are our neighbors, family, friends, and allies. They are vital to our Town and demonstrate with pride and commitment by virtue of their contributions to our Town’s economy and quality of life.
June is designated “International Pride Month,” and the Town of Windsor believes that it is important to come together to show our LGBTQ+ community that they are supported as equals, and work together to reduce discrimination and adverse treatment against LGBTQ+. In a movement towards equal rights, Marsha P. Johnson threw the first brick at the Stonewall Uprising on June 28, 1969. It was a historic turning point in our history, fighting for equality and opposing harsh discriminatory laws. It has been over 50 years since the Stonewall Uprising occurred and it continues to inspire the modern LGBTQ+ and the Civil Rights movement, including the landmark Supreme Court decision guaranteeing marriage equality in all 50 states in 2015.
California has been a leader in advancing the civil rights of its LGBTQ+ citizens and the Town of Windsor is no different. Now more than ever our Town stands alongside our LGBTQ+ community. While further progress and achievements need to be made, it is important to recognize and celebrate the immense gains and progress we have made.

JUNE 12 - MICHAEL A. HALL PARK | |

Construction of the Michael A. Hall Park Detention Basin Project is anticipated to begin on June 12, and will end in early August before the start of the new school year. Working hours will be from 8AM to 6PM, Monday through Friday.
The new detention basin will be in Michael A. Hall Park and will have a volume of 2 acre-feet. Approximately 4,800 cubic yards of soil will be removed from the park and this process is expected to take several weeks. The detention basin will then be landscaped with new sod and trees. The project will also install 300 feet of 36-inch storm drainpipe along Camelot Drive from Crickett Court to Pollard Way.
One-way traffic control with flaggers is anticipated for this section of Camelot Drive during installation of the new storm drain. A construction schedule is still being finalized and will be posted to the project website below once available. Access to the playground at the south end of the park will be maintained, and dust control will be implemented during construction. Drinking fountains within the park will be out of service until the project is completed.

JUNE 19 – JUNETEENTH, A.K.A BLACK FREEDOM DAY | |

On June 7, the Town Council proclaimed June 19, 2023, as Juneteenth, a.k.a. Black Freedom Day, and ask that all residents stand with their fellow Black Americans to honor the reality of their vital importance and contributions to the evolution and success of our country by formally acknowledging Juneteenth.
On June 19, 1865, nearly nine decades after our Nation’s founding, and more than two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation – enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally received word that they were free from bondage. Black Americans came to commemorate June 19th, as Juneteenth, all Americans can celebrate human freedom, reflect on the grievous and ongoing legacy of slavery, and rededicate ourselves to rooting out the systemic racism that continues to plague our society preventing the full promise of America to every American.
Juneteenth is a day for all Americans to feel the power of this day, learn from our history, celebrate our progress, and recognize and engage in the work that continues – namely, standing together showing that bigotry and hate have no safe harbor in America or the Town of Windsor. We commemorate the centuries of struggle and progress led by abolitionists, educators, civil rights advocates, lawyers, activists, trade unionists, religious leaders, public officials, and everyday Americans who have brought our Nation closer to fulfilling its promise.

Wilson Ranch Soccer Fields are closed for maintenance through June 30.
The Town’s Parks & Recreation Department worked closely with the board members of the local soccer groups to select this period to close the fields for field maintenance. During the closure, the Parks Department will be busy giving our fields some well-needed care.

The Town of Windsor is excited to announce the installation of the Wisdom Tree Mural Project, in collaboration with Pomo artists, on the north side of the Huerta Gym, located at 9291 Old Redwood Highway, Building 200. The project is a collaboration between the Town's Public Art Advisory Commission (Commission) and Pomo artists Bonnie Lockhart, Eric Wilder, and Jewelina Acosta.
The mural project was envisioned in 2019, by a small volunteer committee, Community Healing, to bring greater awareness to the native Pomo community in the area. Following approval from the Commission and the Town Council, the project entered into agreements with the Pomo artists, who were guided by local Native educator, storyteller, and Tribal community member Rose Hammock.
A celebration of the project will be held on June 16 from 6:30PM - 8PM and is open to the public. The artists will be present to talk about the mural, the artistic process, and the rich cultural meaning behind the imagery. Food and friendship will follow the brief program. The celebration will take place at the mural.

Art Under the Oaks is a new public art installation near the Town Green. The community-submitted photographs exemplify what makes Windsor a great place to live, work, and play -- wonderful people who care for each other, gorgeous nature and parklands, and fantastic food and events.
Featuring 30 images submitted by 16 community members, the Downtown Photo Gallery will be temporarily displayed along Old Redwood Highway, north of the Bell Village Shopping Center (Oliver's), through November 2023. The Downtown Photo Gallery is part of a Countywide ArtSurround (Creative Sonoma) program presented in partnership with artist Ann Weber.

FREE KITCHEN COMPOST PAILS | |

Sonoma County Resource Recovery (SCRR) and Town staff attended the first Summer Nights on the Green concert on June 1, to pass out FREE kitchen compost pails (compost pails). The compost pails will assist with diverting organic waste from being landfilled supporting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Organic waste captured in the compost pail will go into your green waste cart or bin.

It's June! Vegetation management season is upon us, are you ready? We are! Our crews were mowing last weekend at Station 5 – Rincon Valley and Station 6 – Mountain.
A message from our SCFD Fire Marshal:
“The Sonoma County Fire District is thankful to all the Windsor community members who make fire safety a priority! Our communities have endured trying times over the last several years but together we can share the responsibility in making our communities safer by each doing our part. Remember you are not just protecting your property by being responsible with your vegetation management, you are helping to protect your neighbors and the community at large!
SCFD responds every year to grass fires resulting from irresponsible mowing. Use the appropriate mower for the job. Lawn mowers are for ornamental green lawns, not for fields of high dry weeds. If the mower blade strikes a rock, a spark can occur often followed by a grass fire. Mow early in the season and only in the early morning while vegetation is damp, humidity is high, and temperatures are low. NEVER mow during the heat of the day in the summer or fall! And be sure to mow down to no taller than 4”, says Division Chief/Fire Marshal Cyndi Foreman.
Vegetation abatement requirements will be enforced following the start of fire season which is declared by the State Fire Marshal and usually begins around June 1, annually.
