OUR ARTS COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU!

It’s that time of year! The countdown is on to ring in 2024 and you still can make an impact on a creative community that needs your support. Markham artists are remarkable and unique! And just like every person matters, the arts matter too. And so does your generosity.

As 2023 comes to an end, I am so very proud of the difference that the Markham Arts Council is making on behalf of our growing artist community and for residents of Markham through our workshops and events such as our popular Healing Dance Program, Music on the Street, and Art Therapy for Seniors.

Your past generous financial support has opened doors to arts and cultural experiences that might not otherwise be possible. Today, we need your help even more to continue providing programs that support exceptional homegrown artistic talent and ensure that residents enjoy the best art and cultural talent that Markham has to offer.

It is not too late to make a tax-deductible donation to the Markham Arts Council.

Giving Online is fast, easy, and secure. You will receive your tax receipt quickly, and if you donate by December 31st, you can claim your donation on your 2023 tax return. You can also mail your donation cheque using the address below:

Markham Arts Council, P.O. Box 64503, RPO Unionville, Markham, ON L3R 0M9

Any donations over $20 will qualify to enter our year-end draw for one of two generously donated prizes! You could win a pair of season tickets for Markham at the Movies or one month of lessons with the renowned School of Rock Markham!

If you have recently sent us your contribution, thank you for your gift. It will provide opportunities for our ever-growing Markham arts community.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATION!

I hope you and your loved ones enjoy a safe and restful holiday season.

With gratitude,

Stephen Chait

THE GREATEST SHOW

Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 8 p.m.

Flato Markham Theatre | 171 Town Centre Blvd.

Stravinsky’s Circus polka, subtitled “For a Young Elephant”, was composed as a short ballet production for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey’s “Greatest Show on Earth;” the ballet was originally performed by several young elephants in pink tutus! Concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra Jonathan Crow takes the spotlight to perform Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 2, whose second movement—a theme and variations—is an early example of a theme employing all twelve tones of the chromatic scale. For the grand finale, Bruckner’s Symphony No. 3 showcases a masterwork of virtuosic orchestral sound in a work that the young composer found inspiration and encouragement from Richard Wagner—although the Wagnerian allusions were revised out of later versions.
