Guinness World Record Attempt at Cat & Mouse

What does it take to get into the Guinness Book of World Records? For James Buffington, founder of the Chicago Yo-Yo Club, it will take an architect, a photographer, a videographer, witnesses of good standing in the toy community, and one yo-yo with a very long string.

On Saturday, May 21st, James will attempt to smash the record for the world's longest usable yo-yo, which currently stands at 35 feet 2 inches. From the heights of the roof deck above Cat & Mouse Game Store, where the Chicago Yo-Yo Club meets monthly, James will throw a yo-yo with a 40+ foot string and attempt to have it come back up to his hand.   And just in case you're wondering, a normal yo-yo string is about 3-4 feet.

Our official string-measurer will be Alec Lisec of Lisec Architects, since Guinness requires that all measurements be done by an architect or surveyor.  (Who knew?)  Our chief official witness will be Mary Couzin, founder of the Chicago Toy & Game Fair and all-around toy expert.  And last but not least,  the enthusiastic and talented members of the Chicago Yo-Yo Club will also be on hand to document the event and cheer James on.

Will James succeed in his quest to make history and join the pages of Guinness?  We hope you'll find out with us on May 21st!
