Staff Appreciation Week May 6 - 10th

Dear DVHS Community,

For over a decade, we’ve made an effort to honor our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week with the things they most need to improve their teaching practices and reinvigorate their classrooms.

Each year, the DVHS library creates an Amazon Wish List, and staff from all corners of campus send in their wishes, which we compile into one list for the community to fund. Over the years, we’ve had overwhelming support and positive responses from our DVHS community. Thousands of wishes have been granted by community members choosing to honor staff members and their hard work. It is truly a joy to see the sincere gratitude on teachers’ faces when they realize their wish has been granted by someone who appreciates them.

What is striking about this Wish List is the wide range of items needed, as it shows just how diverse we are as a campus. From books on best teaching practices, project-based learning supplies, flexible seating, and favorite pens, to posters that motivate and educate, to art supplies, educational games, movies, and more – the needs are wide and far-reaching.

Once again, PTSA is joining forces with the library to promote these wishes in conjunction with National Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you, PTSA!

A few things to note about the Wish List:

  • Participating staff have created their Wish List, and we have compiled them into one master list, linked below. Not all staff chose to participate.
  • Items purchased will automatically be shipped to teachers at the address they provide (concealed for privacy). You need to select "Gift Registry Address" when picking the shipping address. If you don't, it will not ship to the teacher.
  • Please write a note in the “gift card” section that includes the teacher’s name, a note, and your name! This is VERY important!
  • If you don’t have a preference for a teacher, or if a teacher did not choose to participate, please consider selecting items for the Library as it will benefit ALL DVHS students. Those items are under Mrs. Knapp and Ms. Hussenet's names.

It’s no secret that the teachers at DVHS work hard for our students and our community, and small wishes being granted are incredible for morale. We hope you consider granting a few wishes to say thank you and show your appreciation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Library Staff or Principal Lauren Falkner.

Student support & resources as semester end nears

With just a few weeks remaining till the end of the semester, now is the time for students to communicate openly with their teachers if they find themselves grappling with any skills or concepts in their classes. Whether seeking clarification on a complex topic or requesting additional support, our dedicated teachers are here to help every step of the way. Additionally, we encourage students to take advantage of the resources available to them, such as the Access period and tutoring sessions held in the commons on Tuesday and Thursday during B Period, facilitated by our esteemed Academic Leadership students. Let's work together to finish strong!

Fourth Quarter Progress Report Cards

Fourth quarter progress ends today, Friday, 5/3. Report cards can be viewed through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal on Wednesday, 5/8 after 3pm. If you have questions regarding your students' grades, please contact their teacher directly.

Graduation information

We urge our senior Wildcats and their parents to check out the 2024 Graduation information page on the DVHS website. This is where you’ll find details regarding graduation and end-of-year senior events.

Support student non-profits

The seniors in Hero's Journey English class are creating non-profit projects that support a good cause they are passionate about. If you are a student looking for ways to earn community service hours before the end of the year or a community member looking to help those in need, there are a number of opportunities available. From bake sales to cleaning out closets and donating books, there are a lot of ways to give back. We are hoping that the DV community will help support us in reaching our goals by ordering, donating, or attending an event. Please see a list of our Non-Profits here.

DVHS Athletic Booster

On behalf of the Dougherty Valley High School Athletic Boosters, we would like to thank all of you who supported DVHS Athletics by purchasing Athletic Booster memberships and supported our Annual Crab Feed. As a result of the generosity and efforts of our DVHS parents, teachers, coaches and school administration, DVHS has found a lot of success and growth in our athletic programs and is able to support them. DVHS Athletic Boosters continues to pay for our Athletic Trainer, award Coaches Grants and scholarships to our Senior Athletes.

Thank you to all of our parents who donated to your athlete’s team(s). With your team donations, some teams were able to make their budgets and have successful seasons. Unfortunately, not every team met their donation expectations. If you didn’t get a chance to donate or would like to make another donation, you can still do that by clicking here.

Congratulations to all our athletes for their grit, determination, and discipline throughout their seasons. Way to go! We want to thank our parent community for driving our athletes, showing up to volunteer at snack bars, organizing banquets and moreover cheering on our athletes! It takes a community to support 1300 athletes. We take pride in our DVHS community and look forward to continuing to support our DVHS Wildcats!

Sincerely,

2023-24  DVHS Athletic Boosters

JOIN OUR DVHS LANGUAGE SUPPORT NETWORK

DVHS proudly serves a linguistically diverse community. Recently, families who speak primary languages other than English have expressed interest in connecting with other families that are also fluent in their preferred language. This year, we have been able to pair all families requesting this connection with willing participants from our incredible Wildcat community. This week, we received a new request, so we are looking for a DVHS parent/guardian fluent in Spanish to join our DVHS language support network. Please email Jessica Wigginton (jwigginton@srvusd.net) if you are interested in connecting with this family.

NAACP will host Parent Engagement Workshops for Middle Schools (5/9—Updated Date) and High Schools (5/16) virtually from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Please check out the flyer for dates and RSVP here.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month - May

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the month of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. California is home to over 600,000 students of Asian and Pacific Islander descent and they reflect the great diversity of culture and heritage of their many countries. SRVUSD’s Board of Education recognizes the need for all students to develop pride in their own identity and heritage as well as understand, respect, and accept the identity and heritage of others.

Mental Health Awareness Month - May

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the month of May as Mental Health Awareness Month. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that 13-20% of youth ages 13-18 have a diagnosed mental health disorder in the United States. With the rise in stress, fear, uncertainty, and suicidal thoughts, addressing the mental health needs of children, youth, and families is critical. The Board of Education commits that SRVUSD will intentionally commit to: Increasing awareness and understanding of mental health for our entire educational community; helping our children, youth and adults be aware of the steps they can take to protect their mental health; and providing appropriate and accessible services for all people, especially children and youth with mental health conditions.

Day of the Teacher - May 8, 2024

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes May 8, 2024 as Day of the Teacher. SRVUSD’s Board of Education encourages appropriate activities that celebrate our teachers and the teaching profession. The quality of all students’ educational experiences depends significantly upon the quality and effectiveness of their teachers. SRVUSD administrators and school communities have the utmost respect and admiration for the district’s teachers as they are individuals who have dedicated their lives and their talents to the education of our children.

Classified School Employee Week - May 19-25, 2024

San Ramon Valley Unified School District recognizes the week of May 19-25, 2024 as Classified School Employee Week. Classified employees serve a vital role in creating strong, effective schools and district offices. Classified employees support students in the classroom, perform vital clerical, office, and technology functions, prepare and serve student meals, perform custodial, maintenance, and grounds services, serve as bus drivers and crossing guards, and administer other essential services that ensure that our students, campuses, and offices run smoothly and effectively. The SRVUSD Board of Education supports the celebration of Classified School Employee Week and recognizes the outstanding contributions provided by the district’s classified employees.

This is a great time for current 8th-grade families to join their high school lists. High School students interested in receiving their high school newsletters are also welcome to subscribe!

Parents of 2022 Graduates: You're welcome to stay on the high school list, but if you'd prefer to stop receiving newsletters and school updates, click on the Update Profile link in the council newsletter and uncheck any lists you no longer want to hear from.
