"Should I feed my pet table scraps?" This is often an unnecessarily controversial question.
Whether your pet is 5 months old or 15 years old, you should know that adding certain types of table scraps to your pet's diet is fundamental to their health and well-being. But, they need to be combined with a pure, harm-free food for a pet's diet to actually be effective.
This is coming from over 52 years of animal nutrition research, veterinary practice, and consulting with leaders on a global stage to advance animal health and welfare for our planet's pets.
Table scraps are even a component in the Cornucopia Feeding Paradigm that I meticulously developed over five decades to give pet parents a clear roadmap for the optimal pet diet for both dogs and cats.

Why You Should Be Feeding Table Scraps
|
The pet food industry's best product is misinformation. It's no surprise that they take an anti-health position to table scraps by strongly opposing them altogether. That's just bad science, dangerous reasoning, and another example of why they can't be trusted as experts on pet nutrition. (They are experts, however, at making staggering profits at the expense of your pet's health.)
Remember, the vast majority of pet food on the market today is made from ingredients that have been condemned by law for human consumption due to its potentially harmful effects.
I'm a strong advocate for the right kind of table scraps. I'll touch on the right vs wrong kind further down.
The right kind of table scraps gives your pet exposure to a diversified diet that has also passed human-grade and regulated health/quality inspections. While table scraps may not always be organic, they are echelons above the condemned ingredients found in pet food.
Human-grade table scraps when combined with the strictly organic Cornucopia diet is a dynamic nutrition plan that not only saves you money in the long term but helps extend your pet's lifespan.
A diversified diet packed with an abundance of healthy nutrients will help your pet live a longer, happier life.

Right vs Wrong Table Scraps (Dogs & Cats)
|
There are some foods that you should not feed a dog or cat. There are other types that may be fine but require some monitoring. However, most healthy, human-grade food is ideal for table scraps feeding. Remember, table scraps are only a fraction of the total Cornucopia paradigm.
Table scraps, like supplements, will never effectively replace the overall Cornucopia diet. Think of table scraps as a health booster but not the entire rocket to the peak of pinnacle health.
Note: Before WWII in the 1940s, manufactured pet food didn't even exist. Homemade, non-GMO, human-grade food was the pets' diet. Yet, pets lived 2-3 times longer than our pets do today on processed pet food.

Wrong Kind of Table Scraps:
|
- Processed Food (If it didn't grow out of the earth, stay away).
- Foods with Sugar (Added sugar to any food product is a red flag for both humans & pets).
- Foods with Chocolate (Both light and dark chocolate).
- Food with Raisins or Grapes (Their digestive system cannot handle these).
- Foods with White Potatoes (The skins are healthy but the contents are not ideal for pet digestion).
- Foods with lots of Onions or Raw Garlic Cloves (Tiny amounts are mostly fine, but large amounts aren't).
- Foods with Gluten. (My Golden Rule: No pasta, no pizza, no dairy, no dessert, no bread).
|
Right Kind of Table Scraps:
|
- Vegetables (Fiber and Sulforaphone-heavy veggies are best. Think carrots, pumpkin, and broccoli).
- Sweet Potatoes (Remember, the skin is critical for getting good fiber to your pet's microbiome).
- Protein Sources like Meat, Chicken, or Fish (Free of antibiotics, GMOs, hormones, etc.).
- Fruits (This is one to monitor. Most fruits are fine but sometimes dogs can get an upset stomach from certain fruits).
|
If you're still feeding traditional pet food to your dog, you need to eliminate that today for your pet's sake.
Once you do make the switch to the full Cornucopia diet, table scraps can be an incredible addition to it even if it's just an extra 5-10% of food throughout the week.

Once your cat transitions to the full Cornucopia diet, table scraps can be an incredible addition to it even if it's just an extra 5-10% of food throughout the week just like with dogs.
The main driver of health will always be the Cornucopia diet. Table scraps are just a small part of the paradigm.

Like the pet food industry, the pet snack industry is just as harmful. Almost all pet food snacks on the market are not harm-free, GMO-free, preservative-free, gluten-free, and organic. Some may tick a couple of these boxes, but not all. That makes the majority of them harmful.
|
Snacks are a great tool to reward our pets for good behavior but that reward should not come at the expense of their lifespan and health. The same thing can be said for the snacks people give their human children.
That's why we created Cornucopia Krispy Krunchies that both dogs and cats can enjoy as the only known non-toxic, non-harmful, organic, gluten-free, and preservative-free snack solution for pets. We made them travel-friendly so you can feed them at home or on the road with ease.

How To Get More Sulforaphane Into Your Pet
|
You may have not heard the word "Sulforaphane" before. But, you should know that this is the fire brigade, best friend, and guardian angel of both you and your pet's immune system.
Daily consumption of Sulforaphane is unequivocally one of the best "small" things you can do for you and your pet that will have a huge impact on health.
Sulforaphane is a natural plant compound found in fresh-harvested broccoli and is one of the active ingredients in your liver that produces some of the most powerful anti-inflammatories and antioxidants known to man. In short, it's how your body helps itself to heal and keep inflammation low.
Now, for true metabolic potency, you'd need to feed approximately a bushel of broccoli a day to your pet or your family to get the full scope of Sulforaphane's benefits on a consistent basis. That's a lot of broccoli.
That's why we have our Organic Vegetable Powder for pets and their parents. Cornucopia's Organic Vegetable Powder delivers Sulforaphane massively more efficiently than just eating raw broccoli due to our unique process how growing, harvesting, and maintaining our organic broccoli sprouts before milling them into a highly-concentrated, effective health powder.
You can simply sprinkle this powder on your cat or dog's meal when feeding them. Our team at Cornucopia, including me, consumes our Sulforaphane-filled Vegetable Powder every day to help prevent sickness and disease.
Personally, I haven't been sick for countless years because of the way I feed my body.
This powder helps you and your pet lead a life of prevention instead of a life of prescriptions. Prevention is the key to staying well and living longer.

Consistency with Cornucopia can turn your pet's life around.

"Dear Dr. Broderick,
Buster the cat is 17 and counting. When I first came across Cornucopia on Shark Tank it was when I was awaiting results from recent blood tests for my declining cat. He's still here 3 months later and my extremely picky eater loves the Organic Turkey!! It's such huge peace of mind knowing that I'm truly doing all that I can for him.
Best of all, Dr. Broderick is not only the man behind the company, he's the man who returns phone calls on holidays and spends quality time discussing your specific situational needs. So rare in this day to have that personal touch.
Thanks so much for all you do to make these products available. You are literally a lifesaver!" - Erica S.

Cornucopia does more for your pet per can than anything else.

Watch me quickly go over why Cornucopia food is only packed full of useful nutrients without substituting half the can to water and carbs like the other pet food brands.
