And the Best Large Affordable Housing

Project Is...

The Westerly

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) is the 2024 Housing Achievement Award winner in the "Best Large Affordable Housing Project" category for their project The Westerly. This recognition celebrates the standout contribution to affordable housing within the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region, specifically highlighting projects with 100 or more units that have made a meaningful impact.

Why The Westerly Stands Out:

  • A Commitment to Affordability: This mixed-income, mixed-use community has reserved 136 units to be affordable, half (68) of which are available to household incomes at 30% AMI with the other half (68) at 50% AMI.

  • Cultivating Community: The Westerly has 29,000 square feet of ground floor space for neighborhood-serving retail. Retailers include GoodVets, AppleTree School, Good Company Doughnut Cafe, and a dedicated cultural space. On-site amenities include a club room, game rooms, rooftop pool, community room, computer room, library, fitness center and more.

  • Focus on Sustainability: The Westerly is pursuing ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction certification & LEED Gold equivalency.

The Westerly is a great example of how affordable homes can blend together with market-rate units to build one thriving community. Located less than one block from the Waterfront Metro Station, The Westerly provides residents access to public transportation, retail, grocery stores and other nearby amenities. This achievement was made possible through collaborative efforts, underscoring the importance of partnership. We are proud to shoutout Clark Construction, Torti Gallas Urban (architect), D.C. Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development, D.C. Housing Finance Agency, Hickok Cole (interior design), and Bozzuto Management.
