Dallas begins construction 8/19/2015 on temporary trail along
White Rock Creek Trail
(DALLAS) - After recent flooding severely damaged the popular White Rock Creek Trail at Anderson Bonner Park, the Dallas Park and Recreation Department is constructing a temporary asphalt trail that will make hiking and biking along Park Central Drive between Churchill Way and Forest Lane easier for patrons.
"The trail is currently closed due to damage we received during the floods; however, people have been using the grass to go around the damaged retaining wall between Park Central and the trail," said Oscar Carmona, Dallas Park and Recreation assistant director. "We are placing the temporary trail in that same grassy area so patrons can use it while we repair the damages."
Construction to fix the embankment and trail is set to begin next fiscal year, while construction for the temporary trail begins Wednesday. Patrons are being asked to avoid the area until the temporary trail is complete in about two weeks.
In the meantime, patrons coming from the north to White Rock Lake can begin using the trail at Forest Lane and head south. Patrons coming from the south can park in the north parking lot at Anderson Bonner and head north to Hillcrest Park.
"We realize it's an inconvenience for many but we ask everyone's cooperation to ensure safety on our trails," Carmona said.
