DC Doubles Up And Pockets $300K
Just about every day in the 13 months since Major League Fishing announced that Bass Pro Shops REDCREST Powered by OPTIMA Lithium would take place on Lay Lake, Dustin Connell has thought about what it would be like to taste victory at the Coosa River impoundment where he grew up fishing. But in all his dreaming, scheming and practicing, the Clanton, Alabama, native didn’t envision this. Connell routed the rest of the Championship Round field Sunday, stacking 28 scorable bass for 83 pounds on SCORETRACKER® – more than 30 pounds better than runner-up Alton Jones Jr. The dominant performance earned Connell $300,000 and made him the first ever two-time winner of the Bass Pro Tour’s championship event.  Check out more details here.

Sunline Releases New Sinking Braid
As the use of braided lines on spinning reels continues to grow in popularity Sunline continues to develop new braided lines for increased efficiency on spinning reels. A sinking braid helps reduce line drift and the bow in your line caused by wind and waves on a cast. This allows it to sink quickly after the cast and to sink more quickly in water to reduce the bow in an angler’s line. This faster sink rate also helps lures fall faster in deep water presentations. Almight has a specific gravity that is 50% heavier than traditional braided lines. By reducing line drift and bow in the line Almight provides an angler with better lure contact for enhanced bite detection. Almight is currently the only sinking braided line in the US market. Almight has a specific gravity of 1.48 compared to water at 1.0 and traditional braided lines at 0.97. Almight is constructed with a four plus one fiber design that features four outside PE strands with a high specific gravity core in the center. Almight is available in pink for high visibility or olive for camo with orange metering for more stealthy presentations.

Gamakatsu's New Nano Alpha Hook Finish
Gamakatsu®, one of the world’s leading manufacturers and innovators of fishing hooks and equipment, is proud to introduce a proprietary new finish for their most popular hook styles. In the ever-evolving world of fishing tackle, Gamakatsu has once again raised the bar with their latest innovation: the Nano Alpha finish. Representing a paradigm shift in hook performance, these hooks are a testament to Gamakatsu’s commitment to excellence. The Nano Alpha Hooks offer anglers a plethora of advantages, including slicker performance and enhanced corrosion resistance—all at the same affordable price as their standard hooks.
Key Features of the New Nano Alpha Hook Technology:
  • 2X Better Hook Penetration: The Nano Alpha Hooks boast an exceptionally smooth surface which increases penetration by two times over standard plated hooks. That allows these hooks to penetrate quicker and farther than standard finishes, delivering higher landing ratios for fish of all species.
  • 4X Better Corrosion Resistance: The Nano Alpha coating technology provides superior corrosion resistance over standard hook plating. This coating not only prolongs the life of the hooks but also ensures they maintain their peak performance in both freshwater and saltwater environments. It prevents rust and corrosion four times better from developing on hooks particularly on the points which quickly dulls hooks.
  • Affordable Excellence: Gamakatsu understands the importance of delivering top-notch quality at competitive pricing. The Nano Alpha Hooks are offered at the same price point as standard hook finishes like NS Black, red or bronze, making this breakthrough technology much more accessible.
Gamakatsu USA Sales Manager, Ted Thibault is excited to introduce them to the U.S. market. “We have been utilizing the Nano Alpha finish on a variety of hooks in Japan over the last few years and felt it was time to offer this superior technology in the USA. Anglers expect the best when they tie on a Gamakatsu hook, and this is exactly what Nano Alpha offers. “
Nano Alpha finish hooks will be available at retailers across the US starting on March 15, 2024.

SPRO Unveils Jason Christie Baitcasting Reel
SPRO is excited to announce the addition of Jason Christie's new line of JC Elite baitcasting reels. The JC Elite reels will be available in four gear ratios all built on the same durable, lightweight GV-5H resin frame. This unique design gives anglers the freedom to change gear-ratios according to the bait and presentation, while maintaining a consistent feel. Having his reel always feel the same in his hand is very important to Jason Christie. While available in four different gear ratios all the reels in this family are made with the same size frame. The knobs of each reel handle come in a specific color-coded knob. Each color represents a different gear ratio, making it easy to quickly identify which speed a particular reel will be. This color-coded system helps promote efficiency on the water and improves reel management.
The SPRO/JC reel come in 4 fish catching gear ratios:
5.6:1 – Gear Specific Knob Color - Green
6.6:1 – Gear Specific Knob Color - Purple
7.3:1 – Gear Specific Knob Color - Red
8.1:1 – Gear Specific Knob Color - Orange
Each reel is equipped with nine ball bearings and has a line capacity of 120yds/12lbs. Weighing in at only 7.9oz with a max drag setting of 20lbs, these reels are built to perform at the highest level.
Christie designed these reels to fit his style of fishing, checking the box on a feature he has wanted in a baitcasting reel for quite some time. "One thing, I have always wanted in a reel was every speed I would need in one frame size. Changing reels frequently in a day takes awhile to get used to when you pick one up a different one. Having one size reel in four speeds keeps a consistent feel for me. That makes me more comfortable to easily make a change during the day. From throwing jerkbaits to flipping a jig, the JC Elite is the only bait caster I need." Christie concluded.
All four reels have an MSRP of $125.99.
