Over the summer, Iroquois Valley produced a short film to tell the stories of a few of our farmers in Minnesota. Our investment theory is that land security enables land stewardship and empowers farmers to invest in their soils, businesses, and communities. When You Let The Land Lead provides a window into the alternative food and finance system we're helping to seed across the country.

The film features Main Street Project , Yker Acres , and Featherstone Farm , all of which received farmland financing from Iroquois Valley. Stay tuned for a series of highlights to learn about what's going on at each farm.
As a public benefit corporation we're not just committed to providing land security to organic & regenerative farmers – we're committed to creating a diverse community of investors who support healthier food, farming, and financial systems. That's why we made our Direct Public Offering open to non-accredited investors with a minimum investment of just over $10,000. Learn more about the DPO and its availability in your location here .

Funding agroforestry through wetlands restoration
We recently agreed to purchase 150 acres of farmland in Will County, Illinois, about 40 miles south of Chicago. The new farm is contiguous to 80 acres we purchased in 2012 for a farmer who has since transitioned the land to certified organic. The farms are divided by Rock Creek , a geologically interesting watershed formed over 400 million years ago during glacial melting in the region that created a massive water disturbance known as the Kankakee Torrent

Because of their proximity to Rock Creek, both of these farms are in designated flood zones that ideally would not be in agricultural production. We would like to conserve up to 80 acres in a wetlands mitigation and restoration project. This project would involve selling credits to finance the development of a biodiverse, agroforestry operation and the restoration of Rock Creek. The Rock Creek watershed has been polluted over the years by pesticide runoff from nearby conventional farms. We are also restoring an old farmhouse to serve as a public outreach and training center.

In order to raise funds for this venture, and promote the company's new direct public offering, our CEO has moved his office to an old dairy barn on site. You can follow his daily experience of living with the barn swallows, owls and bats on Facebook for the next month or so.
