#ThanksCoach from all of us at Special Olympics Ontario!
This past week, Special Olympics athletes have been sending messages to say #ThanksCoach for National Coaches Week, September 18-26.

This is a time to celebrate and reflect on the positive impact coaches have made across all chapters and communities.
We would like to thank all coaches for their time and dedication towards the athletes because without you, it wouldn't be possible. Thanks Coach!
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, September 30,
Orange Shirt Day
September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day was created to recognize the legacy of residential schools in Canada, which more than 150,000 First Nations, Metis and Inuit children were forced to attend between the 1870s and 1997.

The residential school system continues to have an impact on Indigenous communities to this day, and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation aims to provide an opportunity for us all to learn and reflect on the experiences, both past and present, that Indigenous Canadians have had to endure because of this ongoing history.
On September 30, please tag images of how you are honouring Orange Shirt Day by mentioning @SpecialOlympicsOntario on Facebook, @SOOntario on Twitter or @Special Olympics Ontario on Instagram and using the hashtag #OrangeShirtDay
Throughout the day, Special Olympics Ontario will be sharing resources on our website and social media accounts. In addition to observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we encourage athletes, coaches, volunteers and supporters to participate in Orange Shirt Day. Whether it is a shirt, pin, ribbon, bracelet, socks etc., wear the colour orange to honour and recognize the legacy of residential schools in Canada.

Oceans of Callisto by Special Olympics Ontario's very own,
Rick Walker!
After many years of volunteering for Special Olympics, Rick Walker has penned a sci-fi novel called Oceans of Callisto. The novel is filled with characters of many abilities, with one of the characters being a mission specialist, Shelby McCracken - a Canadian Special Olympics golf athlete.

Rick's imagination and tact gives the reader lots to think about. If that is not enough, Rick's efforts are completely altruistic - donating proceeds to Special Olympics Ontario!
