What's the fallout from a potential TikTok ban?
|
The potential banning of TikTok could have far greater implications than one less social media platform for your teens and tweens spending their precious time.
In 2021, college athletes were allowed to start making money based off their name, image, and likeness (NIL). TikTok quickly became a popular platform for athletes to make money off their videos since most athletes were already popular on the app.
Right now, about half of total followers of college athletes come from TikTok. Additionally, a quarter of all engagement on branded posts come from TikTok.
However, there has recently been controversy surrounding the app and its future. TikTok may be banned unless the owner, ByteDance, sells the app. This ban would have a huge impact on NIL deals and college athletes' incomes.
If TikTok does get banned, college athletes will be forced to move to other social media platforms to continue to monetize their content. Since TikTok is mainly shorter videos, reels on Instagram and Facebook would grow in popularity due to viewers switching over.
Even though there has been this controversy surrounding TikTok, college athletes have not strayed away from using the app. This shows how impactful the app is for them and their brand. Time will only tell if TikTok is banned and the impact it could have on college athletes in regards to NIL.

Can using humor make an impact?
|
Advertisements all have tones and voices behind their content. One tone that can have a huge impact, if used correctly, is humor. Not all brands can use humor in their ads effectively, but if you can, your ad will definitely stand out in a good way.
The key to using humor in your ad effectively is to know your audience and what they would find funny. Humor that goes bad in an ad could be based off not understanding your audience's style of humor and insulting them instead.
Some companies may even hire someone who has a history with using humor in their background. If you do end up missing the punchline in your ad, it would just be time and money wasted on an ad.
However, if you do use humor effectively in your ad, it can have great benefits for your company. Using humor makes your audience remember your ad better and will help build trust and relatability with them. Overall, this will make your brand more noticeable and more likely for consumers to click on your next ad.

Are brands paying attention to this trend?
|
A trend in the workforce that is not getting as much attention as it should is the shrinking U.S. labor force. This trend has been happening even before the pandemic started in 2020.
Reasons for this huge deficit in workers include the lack of immigration during the pandemic along with older generations starting to retire. Also, the younger generations have not jumped into the workforce, making this more of a demographic trend.
Americans now have more free time during their week and less money since they are not working. This could have a major impact on brands, especially in the marketing department. Has your company addressed this shift?
Unemployed customers can make you change your approach to pricing and products. You may want to keep an eye on this trend. If it continues, your marketing strategies may need to be adjusted.

Is a large flat screen still in the picture?
|
According to recent polls, the majority of TV viewers watch between two to four hours a day. Additionally, it also showed that most people still watch TV on a TV set in their living room. Other devices that consumers watch TV on is a smartphone, tablet, laptop, and desktop.
Since there is always access to a screen around us, content can always be consumed. This is great news for TV executives and advertisers.
However, these polls measured only 18 year old's and up, making us question how the younger generations would change this data. Will TV consumption still mainly be viewed on big screens or will smaller screens gain in popularity? How would this have an impact on TV advertising?

Want to earn more views on your videos?
|
Videos are becoming more of a popular type of content to create and consume. Because of this, it is more important to know when the best time to post your video would be so it doesn't get lost with other content.
A video analytics company called Tubular Labs has created a new way for brands to know how to optimize their videos. They provide brands with data to see specifically what time of day their videos would get the best engagement and views on a variety of social media platforms.
There are different times to post based on the length of your videos, what kind of brand you are, and what social platform you are posting on. This will allow creators to be more confident in their content and the kind of results they will receive.

Whether you've been at your marketing position for 1 year or for 20 years, the pressure to produce and come up with the right strategies to reach your target audience is always there.
Did you hear that the average consumer today is exposed to 10,000 plus promotional messages a day?
Recently, Google put out a study that determined to even exist in a consumer’s mind, a brand needs to make
22 impressions a month digitally with that consumer. Therefore, you really need to make sure you have enough
frequency with your campaigns to get through the clutter in your target’s mind.
I am a 12 year former Disney executive who has discovered the secret sauce on how brands can cut through the clutter and reach their target. Like Disney, Marketing Keys cultivates, values, and encourages creativity, collaboration, and creativity from everyone.
By teaming up with us, we make the process enjoyable.
During my years working for various media companies, it seemed that if a company was not represented by a firm or by a media planner/buyer, then that company was at a disadvantage. Marketing Keys was formed in July, 2007 to more than level the negotiation playing field between advertisers and media companies. We enabled advertisers to have a major leg up in the process.
By leveraging our media experience, our relationships along with cutting edge ideas, we have been able to help generate an incremental 30-35% more in leads and/or conversions for our clients through our programs.
We started Marketing Keys with a simple mission. Help Presidents, CEOs, Marketing Directors, CMOs, Regional Managers and others create the most well thought out, efficient and effective media campaigns.
We may not be perfect. But we will listen to you and always be committed to you. We strive to run our business with passion and humility all with the utmost integrity.
We look forward to empowering you to do your best work.
Until next month,
Roger Keys
