Isaac's Insights

They will know we are Christians by our love.

When I first saw our Allisonville bumper stickers that say, "not that kind of Christian," I knew they were talking about Christians that are known by their hatred. Way too often, the loud voices of exclusion drown out the quiet whispers of love and grace. But at Allisonville Christian Church, we strive to amplify those whispers into a chorus of acceptance and compassion.

Join us on June 8 at Indy Pride to show what it means to be Christians—people known not for who we exclude, but for who we include. Join our voices of love and acceptance.

There are many ways to help both on June 8 and before. Click on the link below to learn more and let Pastor Sarah know that you're interested in helping out if you haven't already.

Joys and Concerns

  • We celebrate with appreciation the years of ministry of Carolyn Reed as our Associate Regional Minister as she prepares for retirement.

  • We give thanks for a successful youth retreat filled with fellowship, growth & planning for the upcoming Youth Sunday.

  • We are grateful for the upcoming class of elders and deacons and the nominating committee that sustain the work of our church.

  • Congratulations to the many graduates in our congregation and the families and support systems that buoyed them along their journey

  • We pray for those affected by tornadoes and flooding around the country.

  • We pray for Carolyn Burkholder's cousin Mary Dennis as she recovers from a broken hip.

  • We pray for Sandy Zimmerman at the passing of her brother-in-law.

  • We pray for Carol Wakefield and her family at the passing of her brother.

  • We continue our prayers for: Davis and Bev Goforth, John Hinant, Pearl Ross, Alex Hofer, Lori Corken-Young, Tiffany Kirby and David Cartwright.

We pray, as we do each week, for lasting peace and justice throughout our war torn world, for all who are suffering and grieving, for a meaningful and lasting end to gun violence in our city and around the world, and for our work to become an anti-racist people and society.

We continue to pray for our work and all work to be an anti-racist church and people.

Our Global Ministries Prayer Partner this week is Palestine.

New Carpet

Our carpet installers are hard at work putting down new carpet in the sanctuary. Thank you for everyone that helped clear out the sanctuary last Sunday! This coming Saturday, we need your help again to put everything back in place for Pentecost Sunday. If you can join us this Saturday at 9:00 AM to put the sanctuary back together, please send Isaac an email or just show up.

Retirement Celebration

Please join the Indiana Region as we send our Associate Regional Minister Carolyn Casey Reed off to a wonderfully deserved retirement, we are planning a reception on May 18th at Geist Christian Church, Promise Road Church from 2-4 PM.

Informational Meeting to Review Proposed Bylaws Revisions

Please join us in the sanctuary or on Zoom on Sunday, May 19 at 12:15 PM for an information session covering proposed bylaws revisions that will be considered by the Church Council in June.

Ara Nelson-Mercer, ACC Council Vice-chair, has been leading a revision of the bylaws to make updates to better reflect current practices and needs. The bylaws were last revised in 2014, so a revision every decade or so seems prudent.

The Executive Committee, Elders, and Council have already provided input. We would now like to provide an opportunity for the congregation to provide feedback.

The proposed bylaw revisions will be emailed out prior to the May 19 meeting to allow members time to review the proposed changes before the meeting. At the meeting, major changes will be highlighted, and then, there will be a time for questions/feedback from members.

Currently, ACC Bylaws state that bylaw revisions are voted on by Council and then brought to the Congregation for notification. In an effort to have greater opportunities for congregational participation, we are holding this meeting prior to Council’s vote in June.

If you are unable to attend and have feedback or questions, please send it to anelsonmercer@gmail.com and bunderwood@allisonville.org by May 20.

Allisonville Allies

On Sunday, May 26, we’ll be starting a sermon series based on the hit television series “The Office.” This sermon series, much like the show, will invite us to reflect on finding beauty in ordinary things, and how the most seemingly ordinary things can often reveal the most divine presences.

As part of this sermon series, we’ll be gathering for a church pitch-in after the second service on June 2nd. ACC will provide fried and grilled chicken. Below, we have a sign-up for sides, veggies, and desserts. If your last name begins with A-Q, plan to bring a side or vegetable dish. If your last name begins with R-Z, plan to bring a dessert. If you need help signing up, call (317-849-3957) or email (szuniga@allisonville.org).

Regional Assembly

Indiana Regional Assembly will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Light of the World Christian Church. If you would like to attend and are interested in being a delegate, please reach out to Beau at bunderwood@allisonville.org

We are excited to invite you to join us for our Vacation Bible School, "Camp Firelight," at Allisonville Christian Church from July 14th to 17th, each evening from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. This year’s theme, inspired by Psalm 56:3, promises a Summer Camp Adventure with God filled with engaging activities, fellowship, and spiritual growth.

To make this event a success, we are in need of volunteers! Dinner will be served to all VBS participants and volunteers, just as in years past.

Bible Study with Beau

Our weekly look at scripture starts again at both 9 am (in person) and 7 pm (via Zoom). We'll dig back into Genesis, but newcomers are welcome. There's no homework involved or prior knowledge required. The goal of our study time is understanding the biblical story - and how it connects to our stories better.

Summer Adult Sunday School

This summer Pastors Joyce, Sarah, and Beau will be offering a study about how to fully welcome those with disabilities into our congregational life and leadership. Held during the Sunday School hour (11 AM - noon) in the Casa room, each week the group will discuss a chapter of the book: From Inclusion to Justice: Disability, Ministry, and Congregational Leadership by Erin Raffety. This is part of our grant from the Calvin Institute for Christian Worship, which allows us to provide free copies of the book to participants. They will be available in the narthex beginning this Sunday (5/5). The class begins on June 2nd and will run through August 18th.
