Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw first coined the term "intersectionality" in 1989 writing about the experiences of Black women experiencing both racism and sexism. As a professor of law, Crenshaw writes, "Intersectionality was a prism to bring to light dynamics within discrimination law that weren’t being appreciated by the courts." For Crenshaw, intersectionality is a way to advocate for those on the margins for their full lived experiences, and not just slivers of their identities.
How Ableism Fuels Racism brings forward the lived experience of Lamar Hardwick, a Black autistic pastor and disability scholar. In this book, Hardwick "calls [on] the church to address deep-seated issues of ableism and offers practical steps for dismantling ableism and racism in attitude and practice.”
We will meet at the church on the four Sundays in September following Labor Day weekend (Sept 8, Sept 15, Sept 22, Sept 29). We plan to meet at 12 noon at the church, eat a light lunch together, then discuss our book, finishing up no later than 1:30 pm. If you are one of our online friends and would like to join the discussion, please let me know so we can get everything set up to have an in-person and Zoom meeting at the same time.

Fall Kick Off
Sunday, September 15, we are having a Fall Kickoff celebration! On that Sunday, all of our regular Faith Formation ministries will resume and we will celebrate that throughout the morning. In both worship services 4th-6th graders will be presented with Bibles from ACC to honor their ongoing faith development. In between services and after the 11:00 service we will also host a Ministry Fair where you can learn all about the different ministries at Allisonville and maybe find somewhere new to get involved. More details will come soon, but mark your calendars for September 15th for this exciting day as we start a new year of Faith Formation programming!
