Dear ACC,
We may be in ordinary time, but this time of the year is anything but ordinary! Dare I say, it's extraordinary!
And to make this extraordinary season happen, we need as much assistance as possible!
The Pride Parade is only 10 days away, and we still need folks to help be a part of our parade, decorate our float, and set up & tear down our booth. Vacation Bible School still needs volunteers, and we still have plenty of room for children and grandchildren to participate. Invite a friend or two to come be a part of one or both of these events - invite others to witness what makes ACC such an extraordinary place.
In addition to our Allisonville Allies pitch-in this Sunday, we'll also be welcoming our three Disciples Peace Interns to worship on Sunday. During worship, we will commission the interns in their work of being ambassadors of peace & justice to the Church and to the world. I remember how impactful that commissioning was for me as an intern, and I'm grateful that ACC is the community that will send Allison, Maggie, and Ella for their extraordinary summer.
Hope to see you Sunday and at Pride and at VBS!

Joys:
- We celebrate the youth at ACC who shared their gifts and their witness to the Fruits of the Spirit by leading worship on Pentecost Sunday.
- We give thanks for the coming of Summer and the excitement of camps, vacation bible school, and time to rest and reset.
- We are grateful for the many gatherings of family and friends for Memorial Day weekend and the Indy 500.
Concerns:
- We pray for the Fourman family on the passing of Jerry's brother, David Fourman.
- We pray for the Snapp family on the passing of Troy's sister.
- We pray for all who are navigating the challenges of sickness. May they find healing, comfort, and strength.
- We continue our prayers for: Davis and Bev Goforth, John Hinant, Sandy Zimmerman, Pearl Ross, Alex Hofer, Lori Corken-Young, Tiffany Kirby and David Cartwright.
We pray, as we do each week, for lasting peace and justice throughout our war torn world, for all who are suffering and grieving, for a meaningful and lasting end to gun violence in our city and around the world, and for our work to become an anti-racist people and society.
We continue to pray for our work and all work to be an anti-racist church and people.
Our Global Ministries Prayer Partner this week is Japan.

Construction Contract Signed
After years of planning and months of preparation, we have signed the construction contract with our builder, S & B Construction for a range of improvements to our facility. Most prominently, these include our new kitchen and the relocation/upgrade of our electrical system. Due to the generous support of the congregation, most of this work will be covered by funds raised from our past two capital campaigns. The remainder will be funded through endowment support, borrowing from Disciples Church Extension Fund, and other debt relief strategies.
The Mission Building Committee continues to work closely with our architect and contractor on this process. S & B put out each piece of the project for bid to help ensure the work was done at the lowest possible cost. Both our stewardship and property committee leaders have had opportunities to weigh in and the Council reviewed the full financial details at a meeting on May 22 before unanimously authorizing the signing of the contract. A full update will be provided to the congregation on Sunday, June 2nd following the pitch-in lunch and "Allisonville Allies awards."

Last Sunday we started a sermon series based on the hit television series “The Office.” This sermon series, much like the show, will invite us to reflect on finding beauty in ordinary things, and how the most seemingly ordinary things can often reveal the most divine presences.
As part of this sermon series, we’ll be gathering for a church pitch-in after the second service on June 2nd. ACC will provide fried and grilled chicken. Below, we have a sign-up for sides, veggies, and desserts. If your last name begins with A-Q, plan to bring a side or vegetable dish. If your last name begins with R-Z, plan to bring a dessert. If you need help signing up, call (317-849-3957) or email (szuniga@allisonville.org).

There's no homework involved or prior knowledge required. The goal of our study time is understanding the biblical story - and how it connects to our stories better. | |
