ACC Women,

All ACC women are invited to attend our annual social gathering at the home of Toni Medlen on Friday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m. If you haven’t attended before, plan to come for an evening of laughs, fun, food and fellowship.

If your name begins with letter A-L, bring an appetizer

If your name begins with M-Z, bring a dessert

Feel free to bring your favorite drink to share (soft drinks, wine, tea, etc.) Lemonade and water will be provided.

We will again bring donations to Coburn Place. Coburn Place offers compassionate support and safe housing choices for survivors of domestic violence and their children. This year they are asking again for quarters for laundry and also donations for zip-loc bags (any size). Just bring your donations to Toni’s, and we will see that they are delivered.

You can find Toni’s address in the directory or reach out the church office. She lives very close to church!

If you have questions, contact Linda Belding (lsbelding08@gmail.com) or Toni (tonimedlen@comcast.net).

What's New

Mission Trip Shareholders Lunch

Our first-ever Mission Trip Shareholders Lunch will be on Sunday, August 18, at 12:15pm in the Family Room. This is for anyone who purchased shares of the North Carolina mission trip back in the spring. This is only for those who purchased shares. The lunch will be prepared and served by the trip participants and during the meal you will get to hear all about the trip from each of them! Josh has a list of who all bought shares, so please watch your emails for a message from him. If you have any questions, reach out to Josh. Thank you for supporting our North Carolina trip!

Scripture Readers

We are now scheduling for the Fall with the option for “live” readers. If you choose to read the scripture live we would appreciate it if you could read it for both services. Please contact John Quick to sign up (317-294-2709 or qman21611@gmail.com).

Kitchen Construction News!

What happens next! New gas lines have been bored and will become operational later this week. Three gas meters will be combined into one meter to be set immediately north of the sacristy door. This should provide some costs savings as gas bills are tiered with the first quantity of gas used at each meter being more expensive than later units. Now we will only have one higher tiered unit instead of three higher tiered units for this part of the church.

The construction area behind the church will be fenced off to keep non authorized folk from walking in and out of that space where materials and machinery will be located. Anyone needing to enter the construction area will need to check into the construction trailer office which is now located near our garage. If something or access is needed in this area, please consult Kendal Nagy, David Stansifer, Ted Jacobs or Tom Cain.

The biggest piece of the construction work of consequence for ACC has to do with the changeover from the pole mounted transformers to the new ground mounted transformers that will be put in place later this week. AES, our public electric utility is working with the contracted electrician to plan for this change-over to happen in as short of window as possible.

They were reminded that this is not a project where the changeover could be scheduled for the weekend instead of the week. Of course, we want the changeover to have the least amount of impact on the preschool too! The preschool did move their school start date back one week with parents and teachers meeting on Monday August 19th and actual classes starting on August 21st.

Joys and Concerns

Joys:

  • We give thanks for the beginning of a new school year. May the teachers, students & administrators have a blessed year.
  • We celebrate the work of the Peace Interns who are staying in the retreat house for their closing retreat this week.
  • We also celebrate the work of the volunteers in our creation care garden.
  • We are grateful that Jim Twig is doing well after a heart procedure last week.

Concerns:

  • We pray for Jeri Learner as she recovers at home from total knee replacement.
  • We pray for Isaac as he prepares to move to Illinois, and celebrate the time that he’s had with us at ACC.
  • We continue our prayers for Jane Gradison, Vernon Scott, Davis and Bev Goforth, Pearl Ross, Sandy Zimmerman, Alex Hofer, Lori Corken-Young, David Cartwright and Karon Duffield's sister, Sharon.

We pray, as we do each week, for lasting peace and justice throughout our war torn world, for all who are suffering and grieving, for a meaningful and lasting end to gun violence in our city and around the world, and for our work to become an anti-racist people and society.

We continue to pray for our work and all work to be an anti-racist church and people.

Our Global Ministries Prayer Partner this week is Italy.

In between services and after the 11:00 service we will also host a Ministry Fair where you can learn all about the different ministries at Allisonville and maybe find somewhere new to get involved. More details will come soon, but mark your calendars for September 8th for this exciting day as we start a new year of Faith Formation programming!
