What's Happening at TOPS Veterinary Rehab
|
|
Let Us Show You What We Do
Schedule a Clinic Lunch & Learn
|
Do you want to learn firsthand what happens when you send a patient to TOPS for a rehabilitation assessment? Let us show you with one of your own staff dogs. One of our associate veterinarians will come in, conduct an abbreviated version of our Comprehensive Evaluation, and explain as they go along what they are doing, what they are looking for, and why they are doing it. This will give you a great feel for the comprehensive manner in which we evaluate your patients, and how we can help them.
Interested? Send an email to tom@tops-vet-rehab.com and we can set this up. We are currently scheduling for late summer / early fall.

Case of the Month: "
Reikar" Claussen
Cervical IVDD followed by acute tetraparesis
|
|
Our case of the month is "Reikar" Claussen, an 8 year old male Rottweiler.
Reikar was an existing patient of TOPS who starting coming to us 4 years ago for rehabilitation following a right FHO, and then again 2 years ago to rehabilitate from a partial ACL tear along with his chronic hip osteoarthritis. Reikar did well with his rehabilitation, and those two issues were well controlled with maintenance therapy. Unfortunately, in February Reikar suffered an acute episode of tetraparesis and his maintenance rehabilitation once again became acute rehabilitation. Reikar was treated with both medication and rehabilitation modalities, and his recovery to date has been excellent.

Featured Employee:
Dr. Christine Jurek
DVM, CCRT, CVA, CVC
|
|
Our featured employee this month is Dr. Christine Jurek. D
r. Christine grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago with an aspiration to be a
veterinarian at a very young age. She graduated from Purdue University in 1996 and while still
student had a strong interest in acupuncture and chiropractic. She began her career at a
traditional small animal and equine practice in northwest Indiana, but after completing her
animal chiropractic certification in 2000 from American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, she moved to a practice with a more holistic focus
in the Milwaukee area.
Dr. Christine has been an associate veterinarian at TOPS for 14 years. In addition to being certified in animal chiropractic, she is also certified in
acupuncture through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, and in rehabilitation through Canine Rehabilitation Institute. She has
several published works and has presented lectures at both local and national events. Dr.
Christine enjoys the challenges and the ever changing nature of canine rehabilitation, but most
of all appreciates being able to sit on the floor and bond with her patients (canine and feline).
Away from the office Dr. Christine enjoys gardening, fishing, and spending time with her dogs
and family. She is also an avid student of dog agility and obedience and enjoys training and
competing with her Labrador Retriever.
Dr. Christine has been an integral part of TOPS for the vast majority of the time we have been in business, and consequently has been around the rehabilitation side of veterinary medicine for most if its' existence. We are so grateful to have a kind, caring, compassionate veterinarian leading the charge with our patients.

April Featured Patient "Happy Jack" Assists Orlando Disaster
|
|
You may remember us featuring Happy Jack Dog in our April Newsletter. Happy Jack is a multi-faceted service / performance dog, and recently had the opportunity to help provide stress relief in response to the recent Orlando nightclub massacre.
Jack is a certified Disaster Stress Relief dog, and part of Therapy Dogs International. As you can imagine, the site of the disaster was under heavy security, and TDI was the only organization approved by the City of Orlando to be providing these services. 6 DSR teams were deployed Day 1 to help meet the needs of the victims' families, the first responders and other emergency personnel.
These teams were there for the victims' families when they were first notified a family member was deceased, and also for support in the days following. They were there for the dispatchers on call the evening of the disaster. They were there for the fire and police personnel that responded. They were there for the FBI evidence technicians that had to go in and collect evidence from the scene.
They were at the various memorials around Orlando offering some relief to the community. According to Jack's owner, Raine Ray, "we could have been there for weeks...there was that much need....even strong men and women would come and hug the dogs and break out crying"
We at TOPS
are so proud to be associated with Jack and the work he does. Way to go Happy Jack!
