HOLIDAY NOSTALGIA RIDES

This holiday season, we continue the tradition of placing our vintage train cars in regular service every Sunday between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

On Sunday, November 27th, December 4th, 11th and 18th, our beloved Train of Many Colors will operate along the 1 line, making all local stops between the Chambers St and 137th St – City College St stations, from 10am to 5:30pm. Don’t miss your chance to travel through time – for just the cost of a MetroCard swipe or OMNY tap!

NEW ROUTE

The Holiday Nostalgia Train will travel along a new route this year! Vintage train rides will depart from the Chambers St and 137th St-City College stations, making all local stops on the 1 line:

  • 14 St
  • 18 St
  • 23 St
  • 28 St
  • 34 St-Penn Station

It’s Time for Leaf Collection!

 

NYC Department of Sanitation Announces Special Leaf Collection Schedule

 

The New York City Department of Sanitation has announced the special leaf collection schedule for City residents. Instead of decomposing in a landfill, the collected leaves will be turned into renewable energy or compost, and added to soil to nourish street trees, soil and parks. The Department will collect leaves in paper leaf bags, unlined containers or curbside composting bins. Do not use plastic bags.

 

  • Residents in areas with curbside composting:

Residents currently receiving curbside composting service already have leaf collection! Residents should simply place their leaves in their brown bins, in paper leaf bags, or in unlined rigid containers, at the curb for pick-up according to their regular curbside composting collection schedule. Do not use plastic bags.

 

  • Residents in many other areas:

Residents should set out their leaves in a paper leaf bag or an open, unlined container. Do not use plastic bags.

 

Residents living in Brooklyn Community Boards: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18

Set out your leaves at the curb after 4 p.m. the night before these days:

NYC: Special Leaf Collection starts 11/20 in parts of Brooklyn! Put your leaves in a paper lawn/leaf bag or an unlined bin and set them out the evening before. More info at: nyc.gov/leafcollection.

Meeting Location: South end of Calvert Vaux Parking Lot (Off Shore Parkway)

Description: Volunteer with the Stewardship Team to protect coastal areas in Calvert Vaux Park! Volunteers will help us remove the debris from the coastline creating a healthier ecosystem. Face masks may be worn at your discretion. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone.
