A New Roof for New London's 1833 Custom House Museum!

Water was reported 'leaking in buckets' through the then-new roof in 1836. We need the roof replaced!

In fact, replacing the roof and once-&-for-all keeping the water out will be the most-significant repair we possibly can make!

Please donate & be a Charter contributor to our New Roof campaign.

This week at the Custom House

Thursday marked the end of our 40th-anniversary year at the Custom House.

Over this past year, NLMS has raised more than half of what we need to replace the museum roof! (And thank you to all of our donors!) The question now is whether to do the work in two phases and start right away, or wait and do the whole job at once. We'll be discussing that at our board meeting this week...

Christian Fiedler's gem of an exhibition, Beacons through Time, rewards close inspection. His subtle solargraphs round the gallery walls from Maine to New Hampshire to Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Long Island, with both Avery Point and NL Harbor Light representing this state. Christian actually is a bank analyst, who experimented with pinhole cameras and this relatively new way of creating images as relief from the boredom of COVID. He's now working on a book.

Tuesday: Many of us knew and loved longtime Stonington Lighthouse Museum curator Louise Pittaway, so it will be very nice to hear about Louise and her lighthouse colleagues at June's JIBBOOM, with Historic Stonington ex. director Elizabeth Woods.

It is a busy week.

Wednesday is Juneteenth. Don't miss the Black Heritage Trail REVEAL between 3 and 6 PM on the Parade Plaza.

Friday the 21st -- the first day of Summer -- is Make Music Day, one of the best days of the year! Come on downtown. Stop into the Custom House. We'll send out the final schedule of performers later this week, (but who we have so far is terrific.
