A Message From the CEO

Dear Preschool Supporter:

Our organization is busy as usual this fall season and we have much to publicize! This month, we partnered with the Los Angeles County Office of Education Head Start-State Preschool and the Los Angeles County Office of Child Care to promote Be a Hero - Take Your Child to Preschool Day. All over the county, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and other male caregivers were encouraged to bring their children to preschool as a way of reinforcing how powerfully important a male role model is in the life of a child. The long-term goal is to increase the number of males involved in their children’s education.

Election Time — Get Informed, Get Active!

With less than a month until the November election, LAUP continues to work hard to help educate parents and community members about the importance of registering to vote, and the potential impact of the decisions facing Los Angeles County residents.

LAUP Donor Spotlight — Hengameh Moshar

Hengameh Moshar is almost a case-study in the power of education. Born in Iran, she entered preschool at the age of three. "I remember that first day very well, I cried,” recalls Hengameh. "But I also remember learning about art, crafts and music.”

Legislative Update
Know Your Ballot Profile: Proposition 38

The upcoming November election has the potential to shape the future of funding for early childhood education (ECE) programs in California for years to come. In particular, certain propositions are crucial to the long-term growth of ECE in Los Angeles County. The LAUP Board of Directors voted to support Proposition 38, which would generate $10 billion per year over the next 12 years for various purposes — one being early education programs in California.
