Internationally acclaimed Salentino band Kalàscima and Italian-Canadian alternative folk performer Andrea Ramolo come together to bring the music, dance, and culture of the Salento to the Columbus Centre for one night only. This musical collaboration and the studio album “The South” served as the soundtrack for Ramolo’s award-winning music documentary of the same name. Join us for an evening of music and dancing, where you’ll learn the ‘pizzica’, a popular ancestral dance from the region of Puglia, and hear about the ancient instruments of Southern Italy.

As we reflect on family and our heritage this #TributeThursday, we shine a light on Marisa Trotta and Giovanni Agostini, who arrived in Canada in 1958.
“Our grandmother Marisa was a proud school teacher. She was inspired to pursue her education while married with children. As an elementary teacher she worked hard to ensure that her students received an overall well-rounded program that went beyond reading, writing and math... She ensured that her class library reflected the many countries the students came from… Like numerous other Italian immigrants, our nonno Giovanni began working in construction. Within the first 3 months he left it finding his niche in a blouse manufacturing company where he was an employee for 30 years. His work ethics and honesty earned him a managerial position in the 500 employee strong organization.”

Italian for Toddlers Begins September 25 | |
Children ages 1 to 3 can learn Italian through an immersive experience including storytelling, music and arts with Italian for Toddlers! This program in partnership with Accademia dei Ragazzi offers the choice of a 10-hour course (Wednesdays or Fridays) or a 20-hour course (Wednesdays and Fridays), beginning September 25. Parents must attend class with their child.
