Villa Charities Italian Canadian Immigrant Tribute

Buy Your Personalized Name Plaque Today!

Name plaques for the Villa Charities Italian Canadian Immigrant Tribute project are now available to purchase! Canadians from coast to coast can now buy a plaque to commemorate their loved ones and honour Italians who journeyed to Canada to begin a new life.

As a supporter of Villa Charities, we want to ensure that you purchase your name plaque as only a limited quantity is available, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Personalized single or double name plaques are available and will feature the name of the family member and the year they immigrated to Canada. A tax receipt will be issued for the maximum allowable amount. If you would like to split your purchase with a family member(s), please contact our sales office at 647-951-9874. The name plaques will be installed on the Villa Charities Italian Canadian Immigrant Tribute in alphabetical order when construction begins.

Purchasing a plaque also means you can share your family’s immigration journey online by submitting a brief family history and up to four images, to appear on the Immigrant Map at villacharitiesimmigranttribute.com.

This collection of immigrant stories will create an engaging and creative digital space for the public to explore and learn about the shared experiences of the Italian Canadian community.

Here’s a story from one of our Tribute Project donors:

Our mom and dad raised us on the Italian immigrant journey and the dream. They were post WW2 immigrants. Our Toronto home at 386 Lauder Avenue was the backdrop for the magical transition that would take place. We were all becoming Canadian Italians while holding a warm heart for our Italian heritage. We were told of the sacrifices, and early bewilderment of a foreign land where few spoke Italian and the rest ate sweet white bread.

Our mom Carmela Lupinacci was 17 years old when she left the port of Naples. Waving goodbye until there was no one left to see. It would be 14 days and nights before she would arrive at Pier 21. There she boarded a train and arrived exhausted and elated. Her first job was on River Street sewing powder puffs in a factory. She was a trained seamstress and had a sewing machine in our basement, that spun dreams.

Our father Pasquale Guido joined his beloved Carmelina a year and 6 months later. They married within 30 days. His family would never join him in the immigration exodus. He was always restless about that. His first job was laying down sod in Mimico. He eventually got a job at the iconic factory Tip Top Tailors on Lakeshore Blvd. There he pressed suits. He was a union man and worked piece work for 25 years until he became a floor supervisor. They raised three children and had five grandchildren that would spin dreams beyond their imagination.”

Proceeds from the sale of each plaque through Villa Charities Foundation will support Villa Charities programs and services such as senior care, cultural programming, scholarships and youth services, and capital needs.
