Thanks for wanting to know what's new in Health Literacy Consulting. This issue highlights health literacy tips, podcasts, and other ways of learning.

Health Literacy How-To Tip:
  • Health Literacy Along the Continuum of Care. Wherever we work and whatever we do, it is important to consider health literacy at all phases of the continue of care. These phases include wellness, access, illness, and self-care. This month's How-To Tip suggests ways to help.
Health Literacy Out Loud (HLOL) Podcasts:
  • Older Adults, Brain Changes, and Health Understanding. Mark Hochhauser PhD is a psychologist and readability consultant. In this podcast he talks about brain changes that tend to decline with age. Mark then highlights ways for patients and families to help, along with possibilities of emerging technologies.
  • Deconstructing Stigma: A Very Public Multimedia Project about Mental Illness. Adriana Bobinchock has a keen interest in educating the public about mental illness. In this podcast interview, she talks about creating this amazing project now at Logan Airport. Adriana also suggests ways to create meaningful educational projects of your own.
  • Health Literacy & Consumer Health Librarians. As a former school teacher and now librarian, Amy Six-Means discovered the link between medical librarianship and health literacy. She highlights ways to collaborate with consumer health librarians for better health literacy.

Health Literacy Learning:
  • "Community-Based Health Literacy Interventions: A Workshop" The Health Literacy Roundtable of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is hosting this daylong program on July 19, 2017. It is open to the public, either in-person on via webcast. I'll be watching online. Click the link above to learn more and register.
  • AMWA's 2017 Medical Writing & Communication Conference. AMWA (American Medical Writers Association) is hosting its annual conference on November 1-4, 2017 in Orlando, FL. This year's theme is "Trends and Opportunities for Medical Communicators." I'll be giving an acceptance speech as this year's winner of the Alvarez Award. I'll also be leading a break-out session about Podcasting. Conference "supersaver" rates are available through June 30, 2017.
This is a perfect time of year for health literacy learning. There are lots of ways to do just that whether by podcasts, websites, or in-person and online programs.

Thanks for always wanting to learn more about health literacy.
Until July, ~Helen Osborne
