CoSE Bold Path Forward Listening Session Scheduled for Oct. 22
President Wagner invites College of Science and Engineering faculty and staff to join him for a listening session as part of his Bold Path Forward initiative. During this session, employees will have a chance to share their ideas, suggestions, and concerns directly with the President and to contribute to the decision-making process at Idaho State University.
This in-person only listening session is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22 at 3 p.m. in PSC 108.

Training In Applied AI and Machine Learning Starts October 1
Here's a chance to expand your expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning with training from a pair of experts at Idaho State University.
Offered by Tadesse Wakjira, ISU CAES researcher, and Mostafa Fouda, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, the course will cover the fundamentals and practical applications of machine learning, developing robust and reliable models, implementing diverse AI/ML techniques, and more. The hands-on course is designed for university faculty, students, researchers, and industry professionals looking to implement AI/ML into their research or learn more about the latest in the field.
Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. starting October 1 in person at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, 995 MK Simpson Boulevard, in Idaho Falls, and via Zoom/Teams. Register via this Google form. The course is free, and participants will receive a certificate upon completion.

Idaho Museum of Natural History to host lecture inspired by Edson Fichter
The Idaho Museum of Natural History will host a free lecture about the Portneuf River at Frazier Hall on Sept. 26 at 6 p.m.
The event is inspired by Edson Fichter, who devoted his life to the natural world, including 20 years as curator of the IMNH’s bird and mammal collections. The Discovering the Naturalist Within lecture hopes to create an appreciation of nature in our backyard through the lens of the Portneuf River Vision with a short film and panel discussion.

Date Set for ISU Research and Creative Works Symposium
The ISU Research and Creative Works Symposium has a set date for the spring semester, March 19, 2025. The symposium is a great opportunity for undergrad and graduate students alike to present their research in any state. We would love for you to encourage your students to be thinking about participating in this event, as they brainstorm and formulate their research over the course of the semester. In-person and online presentation options are available.

New Club at ISU Promotes Interdisciplinary Research and Collaboration
Idaho State University has launched an Interdisciplinary Research Group (IRG). Founded by graduate student J.D. Wardell, the club aims to create a collaborative and innovative research environment that bridges traditional academic boundaries.
Under the guidance of faculty advisor Matthew Levay, a professor in the Department of English, the IRG is set to foster a dynamic research community at ISU. The club’s mission is to unite students and faculty from various disciplines, encouraging the exchange of ideas and enhancing the overall quality of research on campus.

Participate in Public Study about Critical Infrastructure
Would you like to weigh in on what a process should look like for consent-based siting of critical infrastructure? The Common Ground Consortium, led by Boise State University, is hosting a series of public discussions in Idaho communities to improve broad understanding of people's priorities for consent-based siting processes.
The aim is to inform process improvements that can be used for temporary storage of nuclear waste (used nuclear fuel), the power grid, and other infrastructure.

ISU Continuing Education and Workforce Training to Partner with Best, LLC to Host Mental Health Awareness Week Events
Idaho State University’s Continuing Education and Workforce Training will host Mental Health Awareness Week events from September 30 to October 4 with Best, LLC hosting events on October 4 and 5.
Classes are free to attend and this year’s courses are offered over Zoom, during the noon hour, for convenience. Topics include nutrition, community resources, meditation, and resilience in teens.

The Graduate School's 5th Annual Book Drive
The Idaho State University Graduate School’s Book Drive is here!
This year, the Graduate School is hosting its first Book Drive Ribbon Cutting to celebrate the generosity of all its donors and to help get the word out to the community about the drive. You can join them on Tuesday, September 24, from 5:15 - 6:15 p.m. in the Graduate School office, where games, snacks, and a raffle will be available.
Book donors can purchase their books in person at Hares and Hatters at 200 S Main St, Suite G, or donate through their online wishlist.
