Eastern Idaho Science Olympiad Hosted at Idaho State

Youth from East Idaho were recently on the campus of Idaho State University, competing not in trials of strength and endurance but in feats of STEM.

Save the date!

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics will host the Mathematical Association of America Intermountain Section meeting on Pi Day, 3/14/25, and Saturday, 3/15/25.

The conference will feature student activities, keynote speakers, sessions on a range of topics, and more! Details will be announced when they’re available.

STEM Outreach Survey

This survey will help determine STEM outreach offerings on (and off) campus with ISU faculty and staff. The survey results will help better coordinate STEM activities across campus and allow STEM providers to connect more effectively with their target audiences. If you have questions about the survey, contact Robert Gay, education coordinator at the Idaho Museum of Natural History, at robertgay@isu.edu.

Applications Open for Idaho NSF EPSCoR I-CREWS Seed Funding

Applications for the first round of Idaho NSF EPSCoR I-CREWS Seed Funding awards will be accepted until May 30. These awards (Small Seed Funding, <$55k, <1 year performance period) are expected primarily to be led by early-career researchers initiating research directly related to Energy Water (E-W) Systems. Established or mid-career researchers seeking to expand or apply their expertise into a new E-W research direction will also be eligible. Multi-institutional collaboration will be prioritized but not required due to the small size of the award. Funding may support personnel, summer salary, travel, and/or other resources needed to generate preliminary data and/or explore high-risk, high-reward E-W activities.

I-CREWS will host Open Forums in late April and early May to answer questions about this opportunity. If you have questions, contact Kitty Griswold, Colden Baxter, Bruce Savage, or Morey Burnham.

Your Input Wanted: MRCF Researcher Survey

The Molecular Research Core Facility is conducting a brief survey to find out how the MRCF is meeting the demands of ISU researchers and, if not, what instruments or services they should consider.

The MRCF offers a wide variety of molecular services, including sanger and NGS sequencing, qPCR, fragment analysis, DNA/RNA extraction, advanced microscopy, flow cytometry, and sample preparation. Instrumentation available for use includes Nanodrop, multi-mode plate readers, PCR and qPCR machines, gel imaging station, qubit, and more. For a full list of what they offer, please visit their website.

Email addresses will be collected with every survey submission to allow for follow-up on instrument/service requests. Please complete by May 3.

G01 Parking Lot Construction Update

Reconstruction of the G01 parking lot closest to the Pond Student Union at Idaho State University will continue through the summer. Beginning May 6, the entire parking lot will be closed.

The reconstruction of the G01 lot will improve lighting, signage and safety in one of the most utilized parking areas on campus, along with creating an opportunity to beautify the parking lot and surrounding areas. The total lot capacity will grow by 12 parking spaces with the redesign, offering a total of 559 spots, up from 547 previously.

Darren Leavitt Retirement Celebration

Please join the College of Technology in celebrating the retirement of Darren Leavitt.

Leavitt most recently has been serving as the Coordinator and Clinical Senior Instructor in Civil Engineering Technology/Surveying & Geomatics Engineering Technology Program.

The retirement reception for Leavitt will be held on Tuesday, April 30, from 3 to 4 p.m., in Rooms 131 A & B at the Eames Complex.

Google Storage Limits Approaching

This is a reminder that all individual Google accounts must be below storage limit requirements by May 1. Beginning May 7 storage limits will be implemented and the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) will continue the process of preparing ISU to be within Google’s university limits by June 30.

Please note that at no time will ITS delete files owned by current faculty, staff or students, even if accounts are over the storage limits. File owners are responsible for either deleting files or transferring files to alternative storage. This includes files in Google Drive along with files and email stored in Gmail.

Staff Council Summer Social

Staff Council invites you to a Summer Social, an opportunity to play yard

games, socialize with other colleagues on campus, and enjoy some yummy treats! So bring your A-game as we come together to play, relax and prepare for the beautiful summer. Join us on the Quad from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 10, and enjoy the celebration! Let us know you can make it by May 1 by RSVPing here!

FY25 Benefits Open Enrollment Begins

The benefits open enrollment period for benefit-eligible faculty and staff will go through Friday, May 10.

Benefits changes made during this open enrollment period are effective for the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) benefits plan year (July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025).

As a reminder, beginning with the FY25 plan year, July 1, 2024, the medical coverage for the state health plan will be serviced by Regence BlueShield of Idaho rather than Blue Cross of Idaho. Dental insurance will remain with Blue Cross of Idaho.

ISU Navigate Platform Overview & Impact Data

ISU Navigate links administrators, advisors, faculty, and students through a single platform, providing predictive analytics to facilitate communication and ensure early intervention in support of student persistence and success. This powerful interactive tool helps us identify support gaps and reach out proactively on behalf of students before they reach a critical impasse in their academic journey.

With student retention as a priority for Idaho State, ISU Navigate helps achieve retention initiatives by creating new levels of engagement between our faculty, advisors, and students.

The Navigate Infographic provides a data overview and retention impact report for the 2023-2024 academic year.
