$1.7 Million Grant to Fund Scholarships, Research Opportunities for Students
The next generation of biomedical scientists from Idaho State University will be getting a helping hand from the National Institutes of Health.
Thanks to a five-year, $1.7 million grant from the NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, students will be eligible for up to $7,000 in scholarships over four years and other support through the ISU Bridges to Research Careers (BRC) program.

Want to learn more about some of the wildlife that call the Edson Fichter Nature Area home?
Joshua Grinath, associate professor in the biological sciences department, is a featured speaker at the Friends of Edson Fichter Nature Area and Idaho Fish and Game's Edson Fichter Nature Talks series. He’ll share more about the terrestrial invertebrates at the EFNA on September 11 from 6 to 7 p.m.
The free talks are happening every Wednesday in September.

Training In Applied AI and Machine Learning Starts October 1
Here's a chance to expand your expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning with training from a pair of experts at Idaho State University.
Offered by Tadesse Wakjira, ISU CAES researcher, and Mostafa Fouda, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, the course will cover the fundamentals and practical applications of machine learning, developing robust and reliable models, implementing diverse AI/ML techniques, and more. The hands-on course is designed for university faculty, students, researchers, and industry professionals looking to implement AI/ML into their research or learn more about the latest in the field.
Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. starting October 1 in person at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, 995 MK Simpson Boulevard, in Idaho Falls, and via Zoom/Teams. Register via this Google form. The course is free, and participants will receive a certificate upon completion.

CoSE Bold Path Forward Listening Session Scheduled for Oct. 22
President Wagner invites College of Science and Engineering faculty and staff to join him for a listening session as part of his Bold Path Forward initiative. During this session, employees will have a chance to share their ideas, suggestions, and concerns directly with the President and to contribute to the decision-making process at Idaho State University.
This in-person only listening session is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22 at 3 p.m. in PSC 108.

Idaho Museum of Natural History to Host Lecture Inspired by Edson Fichter
The Idaho Museum of Natural History will host a free lecture about the Portneuf River at Frazier Hall on Sept. 26 at 6 p.m.
The event is inspired by Edson Fichter, who devoted his life to the natural world, including 20 years as curator of the IMNH’s bird and mammal collections. The Discovering the Naturalist Within lecture hopes to create an appreciation of nature in our backyard through the lens of the Portneuf River Vision with a short film and panel discussion.

The ISU Research and Creative Works Symposium has a set date for the spring semester, March 19, 2025. The symposium is a great opportunity for undergrad and graduate students alike to present their research in any state. We would love for you to encourage your students to be thinking about participating in this event, as they brainstorm and formulate their research over the course of the semester. In-person and online presentation options are available.

Mid-Cycle Accreditation Report Update: Mission Fulfillment
The first section of ISU's recently submitted Mid-Cycle Self-Evaluation accreditation report details how ISU's Mission Fulfillment efforts align with the University's Strategic Plan. In particular, ISU measures Mission Fulfillment in nine key areas of institutional mission, each with specific fulfillment criteria. These performance measures are published in an online dashboard and reflect ISU's ongoing progress related to student achievement, research efforts, community engagement, and institutional finance.
