News from the Diocese

During this time at Trinity we will be blessed to welcome visiting priests as presiders and preachers for our Sunday services. In order for you to get to know a bit about them before they arrive on Sunday, please take the time to read their biographies.

Please Welcome the Rev. Dr. Nancy Wright

The Rev. Dr. Nancy Wright is a Lutheran pastor and teacher. Most recently, she served as Pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church, S. Burlington, VT for sixteen years, prior to moving to Seabury Life Community, Bloomfield, CT in July 2023. Her congregation developed the "Watershed Stewardship Manual," based on its work on Lake Champlain.

Pr. Nancy currently serves as Pastor for Creation Care for the New England synod of the Evangelical Lutheran church in America. She preaches and teaches congregations and pastors to address the current crises of a besieged Earth and threatened democracy and the need to re-experience the wonder of God’s creation. She has a passion for justice and creation care and believes that reconnection to nature can heal communities and re-invigorate the church.

Her degrees include: M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary, NYC; M.A. in Environmental Conservation Education from New York University; Doctorate of Ministry in Transformational leadership from Boston University School of Theology.

She is currently enrolled in the Graduate Certificate Program in Eco-spirituality at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace.

Previous ministerial posts include Program Associate at Earth Ministry, Seattle; Minister of Spiritual Direction, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, NYC; Founder and Executive Director of the Westside Ecumenical Ministry to the Elderly, NYC.

She has co-authored Ecological Healing: A Christian Vision (Orbis Books, 1993) and published articles in the field of Religion and Ecology.

Dear Trinity Parish Family,

We are entering a pivotal phase in our transition process and invite you to participate in an essential Parish meeting on Sunday, July 28th, immediately following the 9:00 service. Gail Lebert, the consultant assigned to Trinity during Tim Hodapp's sabbatical leave, will lead our discussion.

This meeting is a unique opportunity for us to come together, share our thoughts, and shape the future of our parish community. Your presence and input are vital as we discuss our identity, aspirations, and the next steps in calling our new Priest In Charge.

To ensure everyone is comfortable and well-fed, we will provide box lunches. We hope all members of our church community will make their best effort to attend.

Let's unite to chart a positive and inspiring path forward for Trinity Parish. We look forward to seeing you there!

God's Peace,

Jacqui Lucier and Leslyn Clark, Wardens

2024 Backpack Ministry for Covenant to Care

Trinity is once again participating in the Adopt A Social Worker program of Covenant to Care to provide back-to-school materials for Hartford children in need. We've been asked to provide backpacks with new school supplies for Middle School students (grades 6-8).

Flyers with all the details and suggested list of materials are available below, and are also available on the bulletin table in Goodwin Hall. Backpacks are to be returned by Sunday, August 4, and will be blessed that day.

Director of Music Ministries Search

The search for our new Director of Music Ministries and Organist is underway! The job has been advertised, and we expect to be interviewing candidates in July. You can see the job description on Trinity's website: https://www.trinityhartford.org/welcome/staff-openings. Serving on the search committee for music director are Amy Arlin, Ash de las Casas, Marcus Clark, Althea Francis, Susan Post, Kathie Wilson, and Linda MacGougan (chair). Please contact any of them if you'd like more information.

Trinity Book Club

Looking for an informative and entertaining summer book? Try Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson! It's "a masterpiece of the imagination, using fictional eyewitness accounts to tell the story of how climate change will affect us all." Trinity's Book Group will discuss it on Friday, August 9th, 7:00-9:00 pm. All are welcome to attend Book Group, whether for one time or many! The meeting will be hosted by Heather Kramer; please let her know if you plan to come. (heatherjk@1989@gmail.com).

Trinity Gardeners

"Over the past few weeks the Trinity Gardeners have been working on the grounds and making improvements to some of the beds. The circular bed shown in the picture has been replanted with perennials from a parishioner's garden and looks so much better as a result ! Please take a closer look when you are next in the Close. The beds on Sigourney Street are in bloom right now and have been receiving some attention as well. Thanks to Trinity Gardeners Janet Wilkenson, Linda MacGougan and Peter Green for their work. There is still plenty of work to be done and volunteers are still needed so please consider contacting Peter via email (pmgreen76@gmail.com) to become part of the team."

"As a side note, the raised beds behind the church are now being used by IRIS, and their team of gardeners has also been working hard planting vegetables and flowers. They have transformed the beds and will hopefully reap a plentiful harvest !"
