AROUND THE CLUB

Introducing

Cat

______________

Liberty member since 2022

"Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it."

- Charles R. Swind

A marketing specialist at the U and a self-proclaimed “master of hide-and-seek,” Cat draws her inspiration to prioritize her health and wellness from her family -- in particular, from her two energetic sons: “I want to lead by example and show my boys the importance of taking care of both their bodies and their minds,” she smiles.

An aficionado of Liberty’s yoga classes, Cat not only appreciates the “mini vacations” the practice of yoga provides her mind and body but also praises the tight-knit communities she has discovered at the club: “The support and camaraderie that we have found at Liberty have truly enriched our family’s fitness journey.”

Cat specifically lauds her son’s journey with the Liberty Lightning Swim Team, noting that “with the incredible support and instruction from Liberty’s coaches” he has evolved from a spirited water enthusiast to a confident, competitive swimmer with dedicated passion for the sport.

As spring finally settles in to stay, Cat welcomes the “many more shared experiences and healthy adventures” she is sure to partake in with her Liberty friends this season -- and looks forward to coupling her club time with a few of her favorite outdoor activities: hiking in the nearby trails, planting flowers in the family garden, and enjoying a few spontaneous picnics in the sunshine.

NUTRITION

Nutrition Fact

from the desk of Bethany Williston, M.S., Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

Spirulina

If kale and spinach don't turn your smoothies green enough, try spirulina. It's a green-blue algae filled with healthy benefits.

  • 1 tbsp. has 20 calories and 4 grams of protein
  • It's a great source of B vitamins
  • Spirulina has antioxidants like beta carotene and Vitamin E
  • It lowers cholesterol and triglyceride levels
  • Spirulina contains minerals like copper, manganese, iron, selenium, and zinc

In addition to smoothies, you can sprinkle Spirulina on salads and soups -- or add a little to marinara or pesto sauce to punch up the nutritional content of your meal.

Spirulina can negatively interact with some prescription drugs. Please check with a medical professional before adding it to your diet.
