AROUND THE CLUB

Introducing

Jeff

______________

Liberty member since 2020

A strong believer in the idea of “pertinaci victoria vadit” (victory goes to the persistent), Jeff fully understands the important role regular exercise plays in contributing to the quality of life as one ages, and he is thankful for the continual challenge Liberty provides to improve himself both mentally and physically.

An oral surgeon in the Ann Arbor area who feels incredibly grateful for the opportunity to treat patients in the community, Jeff initially joined the club to “work out alone” with the goal of detoxing, recharging, and improving his overall health and wellness. Shortly into his membership, however, Jeff discovered the true intention of the Liberty community: “So many members, old friends and new, were willing to teach me a new exercise, lend me a hand, or simply share a social moment in front of the TV watching a game,” Jeff comments; “It’s that ‘togetherness’ that makes Liberty such an amazing community.”

As the gray skies of winter begin to dissipate, Jeff, like many of us, is eager to welcome spring - when he can enjoy the splendor of the outdoor sun accompanied by his two energetic canine companions, Oliver and Penny.

Wellness Challenge Participants Hit the Finish Line!

Hats off to our 75 Wellness Challenge participants for jump-starting 2024 with a focus on cultivating healthy habits – and for making it to week 4, the finale!

During the course of the Challenge, we’ve noticed our participants …

  • Trying out a variety of group fit classes and discovering new areas of the club
  • Reaching outside of their comfort zones to achieve new wellness goals
  • Spending an evening learning about nutrition and arising to a weekend morning of yoga and meditation in our special Challenge events
  • Redeeming their coupons for small group classes, massage, and personal training

... and, most importantly, gaining continual motivation from organizer and Director of Fitness, Chelsea – and from each other’s amazing achievements! Well done, everyone!

Blood Drive

Thank you to all of our members who helped make our blood drive a huge success. Because of your generosity, we collected 47 pints of blood and helped save 141 lives!

NUTRITION

Did you know?

Sauerkraut and kimchi are probiotics that strengthen the immune system, improve digestion, and decrease inflammation from diseases.

They're both made by fermenting cabbage: sauerkraut is made of cabbage and salt, while kimchi includes several ingredients including cabbage, salt, onions, ginger, garlic, and fish sauce or shrimp paste.

Please note: Pregnant individuals should consult their health professional before eating fermented cabbage.

ADULT TENNIS CORNER

Australian Open Tennis Event

On Friday, January 19, twenty-eight enthusiastic members took to the courts for a social tennis mixer coinciding with the Australian Open Grand Slam Tennis Tournament. Players participated in both round-robin doubles matches and a variety of fun drills. Afterwards, members mingled throughout the lobby and enjoyed a delicious array of food and desserts catered by Liberty member Guerda Harris. A special thanks to Jennifer Sauld and Lichee St. Pierre, who helped organized the event, and to tennis professionals Dan Goldberg and Paul Ripley who oversaw the tennis.

Rally for Pink Tennis Event

Our RALLY FOR PINK participants enthusiastically hit the courts on Thursday, February 1!

All registration fees were donated to Pink Fund, a nonprofit whose mission is “to provide financial support help meet basic needs, decrease stress levels, and allow breast cancer patients to focus on healing while improving survivorship outcomes."

The Liberty Tennis ladies raised over $2000 for this amazing non-profit. To learn more about Pink Fund and ways to get involved, visit https://pinkfund.org
