Introducing
JO
______________
Liberty member since 2005
"Life does not have to be perfect
to be wonderful."
| | |
|
Credentialing supervisor, traveler, and longtime Liberty member, Jo places great importance on her health and wellness. Having lost her husband to cancer in 2017, Jo witnessed firsthand the important role both health and fitness play in being able to endure the myriad of treatments and procedures an illness often demands.
Today, Jo is a group fitness devotee, regularly attending Spin, Power 30/45, DanceFit, and Boot Camp. She fondly recalls her time at Liberty -- when COVID was wreaking havoc on everyone's fitness routines -- gathering in the Liberty parking lot with her group fitness gurus for classes. In the heat, in the drizzle, and even in the snow, "It was awesome," she exclaims.
Thinking about trying a group fitness class? Say hello to Jo!

Safety Concerns
In an effort to ensure the safety of our membership, please do not leave personal belongings visible in your vehicle while using the club; instead, please secure them in either your trunk or in a locked locker. Unfortunately, this is the time of the year that parking lot vandalism is on the rise.

Private & Semi-Private Swim Lesson Scheduling
Summer Session Important Dates
Private & Semi-Private Lessons
| |
| |
|
Interest forms need to be completed seasonally.
Scheduling
Beginning May 8th, 2023, anyone interested in registering for private or semi-private swim lessons must fill out the interest form, posted on our website under Aquatics.
The form provides our scheduling staff with information about the child’s swim level and availability, while also allowing members to add any special information they feel is relevant to servicing their family.
After receiving all interest form information, our staff will begin scheduling lessons, giving Liberty members priority.
The team will send a confirmation email to those members who have been scheduled for private or semi-private swim instruction; this email will contain specific information about the lesson(s). A waitlist email will be sent out after scheduling is complete.
Please note that we will do our best to accommodate the scheduling needs and requests that are communicated within the interest forms.
Semi-Private Swim Information
Semi-private swim lessons are predetermined small groups of swimmers at similar levels. Please note that these groups (e.g., siblings, family friends, neighbors) are arranged by members/families, not by Liberty. Please be sure to list all small group participants' first and last names, phone numbers, and email addresses on the interest form when requesting a semi-private lesson.

Nets are up outside as the temperatures are finally cooperating for outdoor tennis. As a reminder, please bring your own balls for the outdoor courts. At this point, courts are available on a first-come, first- served basis. Beginning on May 1st, we will be starting outdoor reservations. Outdoor Tennis Courts Maintenance Project
We will be moving forward this summer with a significant maintenance project to repair the outdoor courts. This project will include both patching and a complete court resurfacing . We are anticipating this to occur sometime in mid to late June. At that time, the courts will be closed for approximately one week depending on weather. Thank you for your patience, and we look forward to having four of the best courts in Ann Arbor for our members to enjoy!

Tennis Tip of the Month - Variety
With the summer USTA and Ann Arbor tournament season rapidly approaching, it's a great time to add some new wrinkles and additional variety to your game. Here are several shots that can help you win more matches this summer.
-
Topspin Lob- a great offensive shot to use when your opponent is up at net in singles or doubles. The spin makes it very difficult to run down. Close the racquet face, start low, and brush up the back of the ball in a vertical motion to impart heavy topspin. Aim several feet over your opponent’s head.
-
Angle Volley- most players look to add power when up at net to put the volley away. Sometimes a soft angle volley can be an effective way to win the point. Using a continental (backhand) grip, line the strings up with the side of the incoming ball, and slightly work your hand around the ball rather than through it. This motion will absorb the pace of the shot and help you create the winning angle.
-
Topspin 2nd Serve- many club players simply “tap” their 2nd serve in to start the point. Adding spin to your 2nd serve is essential in achieving consistency and depth in the service box so your opponent can’t attack. Using your continental grip and lining up sideways, the ball toss should be directly above your head. This will allow you to brush up the back of the ball leading with the top edge of the racquet. You will need to swing hard in an upward direction, and this will lift the ball over the net and into the service box much like a topspin groundstroke. Don't get frustrated, as this can take time to get comfortable with and eventually master. Good luck!
