Hallelujah! The heavens have answered our prayers for a new laptop at the church! A glorious angel, swooped in with a divine donation from the New Spirit church vaults to bless us with a $3,000 check which we used to purchase a Dell G15 Intel Core I9 laptop! With 16mb of memory and a 1 tb hard drive, this baby is a true miracle worker!
Roxann wasted no time setting it up, ensuring our Sunday services run smoother than a silk robe on a choirboy. Priced at $1,499, this heavenly device comes with 3 years of service to keep us connected to the big guy upstairs without any technical glitches. And that's not all - our board members, in their infinite wisdom, will be investing in a large screen TV to amplify the glory of our new laptop's content for all to see!
Thanks to this celestial collaboration our congregation can now enjoy a seamless service experience, free of interruptions and full of heavenly visuals! Hallelujah and amen!

WE ARE CLEANING UP THE CHURCH! | |

We are excited to announce that we will be organizing a church cleaning event on June 22nd. We are calling on all members of our community to join us in this endeavor to clean both the inside and outside of the church. Your help is essential to ensure that we can accomplish this task effectively. The cleaning will take place between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM.
We are looking for volunteers who can lend their hands, feet, minds, and bodies to make this event a success. By participating, you will not only contribute to the upkeep of our sacred space but also enjoy the satisfaction of working together towards a common goal.

Help Us Bridge Distances with Stories and Promote Positive Childhood Development Among Children
with an Incarcerated Loved One
Aunt Mary’s Storybook is seeking compassionate, motivated, and dedicated volunteers to help us launch a transformative bimonthly newsletter aimed at supporting caregivers of children whose parents or loved ones are in custody. Our program brings the comforting sound of an incarcerated person's voice to their child (or child important to them) through recorded story readings and gifts of books. This newsletter is an expansion of our commitment to support these families by providing essential resources and fostering a love for reading.
We are looking for volunteers to fill the following roles:
- Content Creators: Passionate and dynamic writers who can produce engaging and informative articles on parenting, literacy, educational activities, etc.
- Editors: Detail-oriented individuals to ensure content clarity and quality.
- Community Researchers: Detail oriented people who can gather information about local events, resources, and educational opportunities for inclusion in the newsletter.
- Graphic Designers: Creative-minded people who can design clean/modern, appealing, and easy-to-read layouts in Mailchimp, Canva, or another platform.

PRIDE MONTH
The gay liberation movement was a social and political movement of the late 1960s through the mid-1980s in the Western world, that urged lesbians and gay men to engage in radical direct action, and to counter societal shame with gay pride. In the feminist spirit of the personal being political, the most basic form of activism was an emphasis on coming out to family, friends, and colleagues, and living life as an openly lesbian or gay person.
The Stonewall Inn in the gay village of Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York City, was the site of the June 1969 Stonewall riots, and became the cradle of the modern LGBT rights movement, and the subsequent gay liberation movement. Early in the seventies, annual political marches through major cities, (usually held in June, originally to commemorate the yearly anniversary of the events at Stonewall) were still known as "Gay Liberation" marches. Not until later in the seventies (in urban gay centers) and well into the eighties (in smaller communities) did the marches begin to be called "gay pride parades". The movement involved the lesbian and gay communities in North America, South America, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Our virtual tour guide, Molly Fulop, is a longtime participant and research assistant for the (Chicago-based) LGBTQ+ Intergenerational Dialogue Project and a doctoral student specializing in LGBTQ+ art education at UIC.

I realize I am beginning to sound a bit repetitive, but I am once again recommending some history titles.
First of all, my brilliant niece, Justine Firnhaber-Baker, has published a new book. She is a professor of medieval history at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. This is her third book, the first two were academic (about peasant revolts in medieval France and such). This is a popular history (still meticulously researched), portraying the history of the Capetian dynasty that ruled France from 987 to 1328. They were the ones who first used the fleur-de-lys, or lily, as their symbol—it’s now a symbol of France as a whole. Justine puts the sometimes confusing history of this turbulent dynasty into highly readable prose, with humor and without jargon (and explains any terms the general public might not know). The Capetians, in many ways, made France what it is today—she shows us how that happened, and traces their influence through the centuries.
