First Sunday of the Month
Communion will be observed this Sunday. If you are worshiping with us from home and would like to celebrate communion during our Sunday morning service, please be sure to have a piece of bread or cracker and something to drink ready when worship begins.

Fall Kickoff Potluck: September 8
Help us kick off the start of the program year! Join us Sunday, September 8, immediately following the worship service for a potluck meal. Deacons will provide ham and beverages, and the rest of us are invited to bring a side, salad, or dessert to share. This is a chance to visit with people you have missed over the summer and connect with new friends that are calling Hamblen home.

Top of the Hill--Everyone is Invited!
Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated as they target and defraud people. Come learn about how to protect yourself from financial and other scams as we kick off our monthly Top of the Hill gatherings on Tuesday, September 10. We’ll begin with lunch at 11:30 then hear from Sergeant Brian Eckersley from the Spokane Police Dept. Please RSVP by calling the church office or emailing Heather Notske, Director of Operations, at heathern@hamblenpres.org. The suggested lunch donation for this year is $10. Feel free to invite friends to this critical conversation; we look forward to seeing you there!

Discussions on Christian Nationalism & U. S. Christianity
What is Christian nationalism? What accounts for its strong appeal in Christian communities across the U.S.? And how should faith relate to national identity and social responsibility? This four-week course explores the history of modern Christian nationalism, its stubborn presence in the U.S. (including the Inland Northwest), and the ways it shapes and misshapes understandings of Christian identity today.
Led by Dr. Kevin Vander Schel, an Associate Professor in Religious Studies at Gonzaga University, course discussions will trace the origins of modern Christian nationalism, and will consider examples of Christian nationalism in the U.S. and abroad, the mainstream acceptance of nationalism in American Christianity, and the ongoing challenge of nationalist thinking in Christian communities. Optional electronic readings will be provided. Classes held on Sundays at 10:30 AM in the Skylight Room, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29, and 10/13.

If you have special talents to share or a heart for young children, you are just what we need! Time commitment is up to you. For more information, contact Janet Ray at (509) 993-2000.

Come Sing with the Choir!
Do you love to sing? Then we have a place for you! The Chancel Choir starts again this September and sings through mid-June. Even if you can’t commit to the entire program year, come sing with us on weeks that you are able. Rehearsals are on Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 pm in the sanctuary, and we gather at 9:00 on Sunday mornings (a half hour prior to worship). Childcare is available upon request. Contact Kyla Fague at kylaf@hamblenpres.org or 509-270-6848 for more information or if you are interested in joining this great community. We begin rehearsing on Thursday, September 5, starting with a taco dinner at 6:00 PM in the fellowship hall. The choir’s first Sunday in worship will be September 15. We hope to see you in the choir loft!

Hamblen Park Preschool is in need of supplies to start our school year! The classrooms will be full of imagination, creativity and laughter as soon as September starts. Please help by taking a card or two from the donation board in front of the sanctuary. Purchase the materials and then place them in the bin below the board. It would be so helpful for our littlest learners! We appreciate your generosity and care for our preschool community. | |

Fall School Supplies for Hamblen and Adams
Adams is requesting donations of various school supplies. With your monetary donations, WE will purchase and deliver these items. If you’d like to contribute toward this purchase, please donate financially to the Neighborhood Outreach Deacons fund.
Hamblen is requesting gently used clothing in case of ‘accidents’ for various reasons. Primarily, leggings, sweatpants, and all sizes of gloves would be welcome. Clothing sizes ranging from toddler 3 through size 10 will cover these needs. As you clean out your children’s closet this fall, consider bringing any of these gently used items to the church and drop them off in the bin located in the church foyer.

New Bible Study Fellowship Group for Women and Children
Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) is a well-established and highly respected program for in-depth study of the Bible. BSF is an intensive study with weekly homework, class discussion, and lecture time. Groups meet each week around the world, September-May, studying the same passages of Scripture. This year's focus is the book of Revelation.
Beginning Monday, September 9, from 6:45 to 8:15 PM, HPPC is hosting a 30-week study for women and their children (ages 5-18) which will be led by BSF volunteers. Because the content of each class is so important to get the most out of this experience, it is required that participants attend each week. This particular group is only for women and their children, but men can find a local group online. You can learn more about BSF HERE, and you can register for this opportunity HERE. If you have specific questions, you can contact Nancy Carpenter at 509-951-8665 or BFSClass1887@gmail.com.
Women's Groups
Women today face a multitude of challenges, like struggles with insecurity, broken relationships, guilt, overwork or loneliness. Countless women have found peace, comfort, hope, security and answers to life's big questions by exploring God's Word. As a group member, you will personally study Scripture and answer questions each day. Once a week, you will meet for a small-group discussion of the lesson, hear from a teaching leader how the truths of Scripture can be applied to daily life and receive comprehensive notes on the Scripture passages you studied.
School Children (5-18)
Taught by loving, well-trained and committed leaders in a secure environment, the BSF Student Program is a structured, engaging learning experience that challenges students to discover what Scripture means and how they can apply it to their everyday lives. Students investigate the same Scripture as adults, giving them the context and framework to have spiritual conversations both at home and with their friends.
