Guatemalan Mission Team 2024
HPPC is sending a multi-generational, 20 member team to Guatemala in August. We will visit Puerta Abierta, an elementary school in Santiago Atitlan. In Santiago we'll visit the Peace Park, the memorial to Fr. Stan Rother and work on planting a sensory garden for the school. Amanda Flayer-Chif is the founder and director of the school (she visited us last July) and does the teacher training for the Libros Abiertos program at La Libertad School in Coban.
For the second part of our journey, we will travel to Coban, spending two days with the students and staff at La Libertad School. On the first day the students at the school will give us presentations, demonstrating their reading prowess and comprehension. On the second day, we will lead activities with the students.
In Coban, the administration of the school district has become interested in encouraging and expanding the program. We will be participating in a meeting to explore growing the program and helping with building a library expansion.
Your encouragement and support, monetary and prayerful, mean so much to the team, as we continue to build this relationship with our brothers and sisters in Guatemala.
May 19, just after worship service, you can support us by joining us for a typical Guatemalan breakfast. Learn more about Libros Abiertos and our team while sharing a hot breakfast and fellowship around your table. For questions, contact Mary Mattie at mattiemk@comcast.net or 509.998.9646

CEDEPCA's Next Virtual Journey - Let's Talk About Mission!
CEDEPCA's next Virtual Journey to Guatemala on will be Wednesday, May 22, at 4:00 p.m. It's called, “Let’s Talk About Mission!” What is God’s mission? How does God involve us? What are best practices for embodying and bearing witness to the love of Christ, especially in intercultural spaces?
At this 75-minute Zoom meeting, Journey participants will listen in as Guatemalan Pastor Emerson Morales and U.S. Pastor Jennifer Hope-Tringali share with each other (and us!) their wisdom and wonderings about mission.
As on any good journey, there will be time for interaction and reflection so that each participant “goes home” with a renewed sense of how God is calling and sending them.
Pastor Emerson Morales is the former Coordinator for CEDEPCA’s Intercultural Encounters Program, current CEDEPCA Board Member, and Senior Pastor of “Jesús es el Camino” Pentecostal Church in Guatemala.
Pastor Jennifer Hope-Tringali is founder of Hope Academy, a bilingual STEAM school for girls in Santa Lucia Milpas Altas, Guatemala, and Senior Pastor of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas.
Both pastors bring a love for Guatemala and wealth of experience wrestling with interculturality, colonialism, and faith.
Mark your calendar and pre-register at bit.ly/guatemala-mission-virtual-journey.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about how to join the meeting.

Bite2Go Correction
Hamblen Elementary has seen a greater need this school year to provide for their students. We have been asked to provide 35 'kits' to Hamblen weekly (an increase of 13 per week), which we will do. But this takes more money. At $5 per student, per week, on an average month of 4 weeks, the cost is $700 per month [previously reported as $700 per student] for the school year. PLEASE consider donating and designating those funds to the Bite2Go program.
Thank you!

May is for Kisses
If you wear your name tag on Sundays during the month of May, you and your family members will each receive a kiss….(candy that is).
Name tags help us get to know each other better and make it easier for newcomers to feel welcomed. Wear yours and get a sweet treat!
If you would like to request a name tag, contact Heather Notske at heathern@hamblenpres.org.
