GENERAL UPDATES

Captains' Charity Days

Thank you to all the Members for your support for the 2nd Annual Captains’ Charity Days on August 16 and 17. We received a total of $7,900 to support the Meningitis Foundation Canada (MFC), dedicated to raising awareness of meningitis, through online donations, the 50/50 draw, shirts, and general donations.

Your support helps MFC advocate for vaccine awareness and uptake to improve survival rates and outcomes, and to support families of those whose lives have been forever changed by this disease.

Thank you again for your generosity.

Thank you Members

GREENS

Wet Weather

With recent rains and humid weather, the golf courses have been very wet and it looks like it will continue into next week. It is often less noticeable on greens due to the USGA sand infrastructure and their ability to drain at a very high rate. However, it is much more noticeable in other parts of the course such as fairways and roughs. When the golf course becomes wet, it is important to work on the side of caution with some of our maintenance practices and protect the course from damage. For example, we may skip a cut on fairways or roughs. During wet periods we also adjust practices on greens to ensure plant health. Therefore during wet periods, they may play a little differently than what we are used to.

We take a similar approach with golf carts. Though we try to keep carts on the course as often as possible, there are times when the carts are unavailable until it has dried enough to handle the traffic. In addition, we use traffic control measures to block specific wet areas.  Please be mindful of these areas.

Bridges

The repairs to the bridge on the 14th hole are now complete. Early next week we are going to re-install the traction mat on both bridges. A single row will be placed in the middle of the bridge for foot traffic. Strategically placing the mat down the middle will help the boards on the bridge stay dry and extend the life of the bridge deck.

GREENS

Pull Carts/Electric Caddies

As a general rule of thumb, we would like all traffic from pull carts and electric caddies to avoid the primary green surrounds and keep a minimum of five paces away from greens. Please avoid any areas between greens and bunkers. The goal is to keep the turf in the primary playable areas around the greens as consistent as possible and your help is much appreciated.

Divots/Ball Marks

With some recent moisture and high relative humidity, ball marks have become more noticeable and divots more prevalent. Please help us with turf recovery by doing your part and fixing your ball marks and filling your divots.

FAQ: Whether to fill or replace a divot?

The short answer to this question is, that if you are doing one or the other you are doing your part. Most often, it is not a black or white scenario. As a general rule if your divot is longer than four inches long and has some soil on the bottom you are ok to replace it, Otherwise, simply fill with mix and tap it down so it is level with the ground.

Bunker Etiquette

In order to ensure consistent playing conditions and courtesy to others, please rake the bunkers properly. When all golfers do their part, it helps reduce maintenance and preserve the integrity and playability of the bunkers throughout the day for all golfers to enjoy.
