Roskin Gem News Report
We were very sad to report last week that our friend, colleague, and son of legendary gem artisan Bernd Munsteiner, Tom Munsteiner passed away suddenly on December 28th, 2023.
Tom was an incredibly talented gem artist himself, carrying on the family tradition, creating even more beautiful objets d’art and gem-set jewelry along with his wife Jutta and son Philipp.

#2.) Synthetic/Created with Natural Report
IGI Verification Service Identifies Lab Grown
Diamond Accompanied by GIA Natural Report.
6.01 Pear shape brilliant, G VVS1
This is becoming a common occurrence.
In our newsletter three weeks ago, we reported that 3 synthetic/created diamonds accompanied by 3 GIA natural diamond reports - and laser inscriptions to match - were submitted to an Italian gem lab to be verified.
The synthetic/created diamonds were cut to match the GIA reports.
The International Gemological Institute (IGI), then reports last week that their lab in Israel analyzed a 6.01 carat pear-shape diamond with a laser inscription corresponding to a natural diamond, but concluded it too was laboratory grown.

The Chinese call it Fei Cui. The West calls it Jadeite. But it’s much more complicated than just name calling. And here’s why.
From what we understand, prior to the 1980s, Burmese Jade (aka Jadeite), was never chemically enhanced. This jade was of much better quality than any other jade in the market, including nephrite, or any other substitute such as serpentine, chalcedony, etc.
Because of its superior quality, it was known in the trade as "Fei Cui," separating it from all other jade and jade-like materials.
But now, it's complicated.
You need to read this if you are interested in Jadeite

GIA & IGI Offer 1-Day Verification Services | |
|
Concerns over the increase in counterfeit GIA inscriptions has labs offering 1-day verification service!
CARLSBAD, Calif. – Jan. 9, 2024 – The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is taking strong action in response to reports of fraudulent GIA inscriptions on laboratory-grown diamonds cut to nearly match GIA graded natural diamonds.
Beginning this week, GIA will offer clients a same day service to verify GIA inscriptions, confirming that a diamond with a GIA inscription matches the inscribed GIA report number. Details of the service will be announced shortly.
IGI is doing the same ...

“A well-developed gemstone sector will help boost value-added exports, thus fetching foreign exchange for the dollar-strapped country,” stressed Abdul Bashir, chief geologist at Koh-i-Daleel Minerals Company (Pvt) Limited.
Talking to WealthPK, he pointed out that Balochistan’s geological environment indicated the existence of aquamarine deposits.
“Chagai, the thrusting faults of Ras Koh Arch, and all the areas in the axial belt in Balochistan are said to be aquamarine-rich. In the Ras Koh Arch, the occurrence of igneous activity in the sedimentary rocks and the resulting metamorphism strongly indicate the presence of aquamarine. The axial belt and Chagai are also said to contain aquamarine reserves,” he explained.

The Hubble Space Telescope saw massive cyclones, storms, and weather chaos in the changing atmosphere of WASP-121b, a planet so hot it rains iron, sapphires, and rubies.
Astronomers have taken a three-year-long view of an extreme heavy metal exoplanet called WASP-121b using the Hubble Space Telescope, enabling them to reconstruct its changing atmosphere and weather in a way that has never been done for a planet outside the solar system before. This revealed this violent and turbulent world is even more chaotic than scientists initially suspected.
WASP-121b, a planet that is 1.75 times the size of Jupiter and orbiting so close to its host star that it completes an orbit in just 30 hours, which is one of the shortest orbits ever seen by astronomers.
