“Sisters, Servants,Soldiers” Worldwide!
What Is Easter?
For many people, Easter signals a time to watch the flowers bloom, trees to bud and the grass to grow again. A time when creation itself is reborn after a cold winter. Others may think of pastel colors, Sunday dresses, matching outfits and family photos.

For children, Easter is a time for egg hunts, candy and large chocolate bunnies. For others, Easter is a scheduled time to refocus spiritually.

Some will even give up certain aspects of their life to focus more closely on God and His word. Easter is ultimately a time of renewal when much of the world stops to focus on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Yet, what makes Jesus’ resurrection so important? . . .

In Romans 6:3-5 we learn very clearly how we can take part in the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

"Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection."

For the Christian, the fact that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead is the crowning glory of our faith. We serve a LIVING SAVIOR! Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift!

"Sing and Be Happy!"
by Alley Cole

When I was a baby, my Aunt Darley would sing to me the classic hymn, “Sing and Be Happy," a personal favorite; I have sung it my entire life. However, have you truly examined the lyrics of the jubilant tune?

Let’s look! Verse one reads:

“If the skies above you are gray, you are feeling so blue, If your cares and burdens seem great all the whole day through, There’s a silver lining that shines in the Heavenly land...”

When the world feels like it’s caving in around you, the songwriter is telling us that there’s a silver lining!

The chorus reads:

“Sing and you’ll be happy today, press along to the goal. Trust in Him Who leadeth the way, He is keeping your soul…”
This song was written in 1940, one year before America entered WWII.
The Great Depression was over, beginning in 1929 after the Stock Market crash.

The 1930s consisted of dust storms, soup kitchens for the jobless, and the term “waste-not-want-not” was invented. Alas, this was a trying era, and now, a war?

Nevertheless, people sang that hymn, to accentuate the positive, keeping their eyes on the prize—Heaven.

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”-James 1:2-4

Trials are promised in life, for certain. The verse reads when you meet trials, not if. Every Christian will encounter some sort of trial, a test of faith. However, we can find comfort and joy in Jesus, He is our silver lining in that cloud, the key to Eternal Life. Living in Him is our security in this life, giving us the courage to say, "come what may."

  • We will be featuring different writers every month. Alley lives in West Plains, Mo. She enjoys studying God's word and photography.
