What does it take to be a Habitat Hero? Dedication, commitment, hard work, and a life of love in action. Greeley-Weld Habitat is deeply grateful for their very own Habitat Hero, Mark Scott, GWHFH Construction Director. Mark Scott has dedicated his life to Habitat for Humanity families and mission for 37 years.

Mark's lifetime of service to Habitat's mission and vision to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live is something he truly believes in, as he humbly says, "that Habitat's Mission is the right thing." Through Mark's long service to Habitat, he has literally impacted for good thousands of lives.

Mark first got involved with Habitat in 1986 when a woman in his church was accepted to the Habitat Homeownership program. He started volunteer work with Habitat by building her cabinets and wiring her home to help complete her Sweat Equity Hours.

After this initial experience, he came back as a volunteer and eventually was hired by the Habitat affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he worked to rebuild hundreds of homes that were lost. Mark takes pride in being able to build alongside Habitat families for their forever homes.

We wish to honor Mark's legacy in building the next generation of Habitat Builders and ensuring our mission can continue and flourish in the future. We hope he has a happy retirement knowing the tremendous good he has built throughout the years for countless lives of Habitat for Humanity families.

In honor of Mark's years of service, we invite those of you who know and love Mark to attend his retirement celebration!

"Mark's impact at Greeley-Weld Habitat has been tremendous. He is an incredible builder, improving the quality & energy efficiency of our homes while increasing production. We are beyond grateful for his humble leadership and devotion to Habitat".

-Cheri Witt-Brown, CEO

"My father instilled in me that a little hard work from a small community of people can make BIG changes in the lives of others. He exemplifies humility and servant leadership better than any man I've ever known and is one of those few people with the courage to take the words and teachings of Jesus seriously."

-Daniel Scott, Mark's Son

"I believe his story is important because it reflects a quiet but fiery passion to love and serve Jesus and a kind of relentless loyalty I think is really rare in this world. He is one of those "only the facts ma'am" kind of guys and is very dismissive of superlatives, but I'm not. Truly the theology of the hammer has guided his life decisions. In building for God's people in need he expresses his belief in the Love that moves through him as he swings it for life, for justice, and to bring pleasure to God."

-Annie Scott, Mark's Wife

We are humbled to have these transformational Breakfast sponsors!

It's not too late to donate to this year's Breakfast!

You are a vital part of helping families like the Martinez family!

Freddy and I have lived in Greeley most of our lives. He and our children were born in Greeley and I in Lamar Colorado. I was able to make my dream of becoming a teacher thanks to my husband and God. Now I am a Preschool Teacher at Platte Valley Early Learning Center and have been there for almost 4 years. We have 6 children, Alida 26, Michael 23, Misha 18, Sarahi 17, Elijah 15, and Josiah 12.

We have 7 grandchildren ranging from the age of 9 years to 1 month. My oldest daughter Alida is a stay-at-home mom of four beautiful children and working on getting her GED. My son Michael is married and has three children, he works in Loveland and will be going into the EMT program at Aims in the fall. My daughter Misha graduated from Greeley Central, now works for Habitat Restore, and will be attending Aims in the fall to become an EMT as well. My daughter Sarahi is a senior this year at Greeley Central High and will be attending the construction/electrician program at Jefferson this year and then continuing at Aims Community College. My son Elijah is working with One Way Construction during the summer and will attend Greeley Central High as a sophomore and plans on applying for the construction/electrician program at Jefferson for the following 2 years. My son Josiah is going into middle school at Platte Valley Middle School and is my strong warrior of God.

I’m grateful to those who have been part of Habitat for Humanity for giving people like us the possibility to build a firm foundation for our children and generations to come. Without you all this would not be possible for many families, you make a big difference. For those future habitat families, I praise you for taking the first step to create a better future for you and your family, believe me, it is well worth it.

You can help more families like Esther!
