American Values Dinner
On May 11th at 6:30pm at the Camp Westmoreland Dining Hall, our District will host our American Values Dinner! Ask your Cubmaster or Scoutmaster how you can volunteer to help! This year’s guest speaker is Ed Yeilding.
Ed Yeilding, a Retired Lt. Colonel, was born and raised in Florence, AL. He became an Eagle Scout with Troop 287 in 1963. He graduated From Coffee High School in 1967 and enrolled in ROTC at Auburn University as an electrical engineering student while he co-oped at TVA’s Cumberland Steam Plant among other locations. After commissioning in the Air Force he earned a Master's Degree in Management through an extension Program of Troy University. In 1983 he was selected for the SR-71 Program at Beale Air Force Base in California. While attached to the SR-71 program, Yeilding flew dozens of missions, trained up and coming pilots as an instructor, and became a developmental test pilot. Lt Colonel Yeilding set several speed records, and flew many other missions before retiring with 23 years of military service. Yeilding went on to fly commercial flights before retiring from Delta Airlines in 2009.
Ed was honored by the military with three Meritorious Service Medals, four Air Medals, three Commendation Medals, six Outstanding Unit Awards, and four Combat Readiness Medals. His civilian honors include induction into the Alabama Aviation Hall of Fame in 2007, addition to the Walk of Fame at Marriott Shoals - Florence Alabama in 2008, and recognition as a Distinguished Eagle Scout in 2011. Yielding now lives in his hometown of Florence AL and is an active member at North Wood Methodist Church.
