Red Zone Restrictions Lifted

Dear Beloved of Christ,

The county, and most of the state, are now in the COVID yellow zone. This means cases are down. The President went so far as to say that the pandemic is over, though he may have been a bit premature.

The Session met Sunday and approved a recommendation from the Re-Opening Committee to go back to what we were doing the last time we were in the yellow zone. Below is the wording of their motion.

That these items be approved:

(a) drop the mask mandate (mask are optional) for all CHPC functions, including worship, choir, ELL and group meetings;

(b) retain the sanctuary right-side full mask and social distancing covid-free zone;

(c) communion should be celebrated in same manner as summer-time: servers (5) all masked, including floater, two lines, separate one for right-side group and one in middle of sanctuary, bread delivered by tongs and disposable cups for each communicant; and,

(d) drop the in-take/registration form and social distancing (except for sanctuary right-side)

Of course, we encourage you to still be cautious when out in any public place, and consider getting the new Omicron variant vaccine if you have not already done so. Your well-being is important to us.

Other motions approved by the Session this week were:

  • To approve the minutes of the discernment meeting on September 7 and the regular meeting on August 21.
  • To endorse Dave Bush's reinstatement of candidacy under Mid-KY Presbytery and assign a liaison for him. Don Mead is the liaison.
  • To set the following dates for congregational gatherings after worship: October 9, October 30, and November 6. Times: 12:00 – 2:30 pm, with lunch.
  • To call a congregational meeting no sooner than October 23 after worship for the purpose of electing new officers and at-large members of the 2023 Nominating Committee.
  • To conduct liturgy training by someone of Session’s choosing for Session, Deacons, and others leading worship.
  • To re-hang the “Do Not Be Afraid” banner on the front of the church building.
  • To extend the contract with the Rev. Dr. Peggy Hinds for another year.
  • That food restrictions no longer apply for the ELL program.

Peace,

Peggy

Children’s Sunday School on Zoom

Children of all ages are invited to come Zoom with us from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. every Sunday. We will gather for music, Bible stories, crafts, and more. Throughout the fall we will hear stories about Moses, Ruth, David, and other ancestors in the faith. Our crazy friend Sid is back too. Join us each week to see how Sid, once again, has fundamentally misunderstood the Bible story.

Never a dull moment in children’s Sunday school! Teachers are Jerry Van Marter, Eva Stimson, Bev Machin, and Luke Van Marter (aka Sid). Please let us know if you would like to join our teaching team. Email Jerry to get on the list to receive weekly Zoom invitations and other announcements.

Join the Conversation, Sunday at 5 p.m. on Zoom

In a series of sermons this fall, Peggy is exploring values that young people—and others—may be looking for in a faith community: authenticity, accountability, inclusivity, hospitality, impact, belonging, growthful, meaningful.

For those interested in making a deeper dive into these values, Mark and Peggy are leading Zoom conversations each Sunday evening through October 23, at 5 pm. They will be using the book Meaning Making, published by the Springtide Research Institute, but you do not have to read the book to join the conversation!

CHPC Presbyterian Women

CHPC’s Presbyterian Women’s Circle engages in Bible study, prayer, outreach, fellowship—and lots of laughter. The 2022-2023 Bible Study is “Celebrating Sabbath: Accepting God’s Gift of Rest and Delight” by Carol M. Bechtel. Since the pandemic map now lists Jefferson County in the yellow zone, we will meet in person in the back building Gathering Room on the second Tuesday of the month at 10:30 AM. Masks will be required for these gatherings. Please consider joining us as a way to learn and get to know one another better. For more information, contact Diana Stephen (502-896-6075 or dasky@bellsouth.net).

Coffee and Conversation

Beginning October 2, you are invited to stop by Henry Young Hall on Sunday mornings from 10:00 to 10:45 for coffee and conversation. Nothing formal is planned. This is just an opportunity to be together and maybe get to know one another better.

Congratulations to Perry Chang

Congratulations to Perry Chang who was elected as the 2023 Moderator of Mid-KY Presbytery!

CHPC’s Medical Closet

Did you know that CHPC has a medical closet? We have an assortment of medical supplies including crutches, a quad cane, a variety of walkers, bath seat, potty chair, and wheel chairs (wheel chairs for short-term use only). These items are located in the upstairs north closet in the back building. We appreciate your returning the items when you no longer need them. Questions? Contact Patti Marcum (502-403-8269 or pdwmarcum@gmail.com).

There will be a clean-up day on October 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to take out large items for the bi-annual neighborhood junk day.

Mark Your Calendar: CHPC Christmas Concert
