Lenten Study for Adults and Youth

During Lent, Peggy will be leading a study on Living in Community. We will meet on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84644745803 at 5:00 p.m. March 5, 12, 19, & 26. The study is part of the PC(USA) Follow Me adult series.

The church is a living community committed to gathering together across differences, feasting and listening together, uplifting those in need, and supporting those who depart. This vision of believers worshiping God together as they learn to live a life worthy of the gospel is strong evidence that life in community is intrinsic to being a Christian.

What does it mean for us at CHPC to live in community, particularly in the last few years, and moving forward? How can we learn from Scripture and each other how to live in community better? Join us each Sunday in March and invite a friend. Let's practice being community together.

Session Meeting Summary

The Session held its stated meeting on Wednesday, February 22. Jack Marcum was elected clerk pro tempore as Polly Cushman continues to heal from knee surgery.

We were joined by Dr. Scott Williamson, professor at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, who talked with us about Restorative Justice. Dr. Williamson has ten years experience working with restorative justice in the juvenile justice system. He led a pilot program with a congregation in Louisville and teaches a course in restorative justice at the seminary. He presented a helpful introduction to the process and answered elders' questions.

After Dr. Williamson was excused with gratitude, the session discussed and voted on the following action items:

  • Approval of minutes from previous meetings, including the annual congregational meeting.
  • Sent a motion from the Nurture Committee concerning clarifying criteria for scholarship funds to the Stewardship Committee asking that they bring a recommendation back to the Session in March.
  • Approved a motion from Outreach to have the Garden Camp this coming June.
  • Elected two session members commissioners to the February 28 called meeting of Mid-Kentucky Presbytery to be held at CHPC. Commissioners to the February 25 stated meeting were elected at a previous meeting.
  • Discussed election of two elders and one deacon to the Nominating Committee, a vote to be taken at our March meeting.
  • Approved a letter to go out after Easter inquiring about membership status, including a list of recipients. Session members were asked to review the list and let the moderator know of names that need to be removed.
  • A motion from Elder Dave Bush concerning rescinding a portion of Roger Veliquette’s terms of dissolution did not receive a second; motion failed.

Deacon Soni Castleberry attended the meeting on behalf of the Deacons. The Session welcomed her and favorably discussed a quarterly or bi-annual joint meeting with Session and Deacons.

The Session has been working on a document to send to the congregation. The discussion and editing continues.
