ELL Program Has Ended
Sadly, CHPC’s English Language Learners (ELL) program has ended. The term began January 23 and was to run through March. But after three weeks with only one student attending, it became apparent that this wonderful ministry had run its course. We talked with the remaining
student, and she understood. Fortunately, she has other options for learning English.
CHPC helped begin this ministry in 2009. Teachers and volunteers gave a lot of time and effort over the years. Our students came from all over the world and appreciated the program greatly. We had become a lot like family to many of them. Getting to know them touched our lives too.
One teacher recently wrote: “This has been one of my favorite mission opportunities at CHPC. At least three churches were involved when I first participated. At that time, the leaders put a lot of energy into promoting the program. The provision of child care made a big difference to some of the families. The other churches faded away, and the pandemic took its toll when we couldn’t meet. If the program is revitalized, it will need energized people who are committed and are able to promote the program around town.”
Although this is an end for now, only God knows what the future holds. For now, we thank two faithful teachers, Eva Stimson and Diana Stephen, coordinators Shannon Langley and Soni Castleberry, and volunteers Carole and Don Mead, who worked over the last two terms. We hope to write a summary of the overall program and include the names of all individuals and churches who were involved through its history. If you are willing to work on that, please contact Soni Castleberry.
