I would like to recognize Lorraine Adams for her amazing contribution to the neighborhood and the city.
Lorraine drives around the neighborhood, collecting donations from residents for several organizations, sometimes weekly. I see her as a representation of our villages. She thoughtfully takes the time to post her haul and thank those who donated. But she’s the one filling up her car repeatedly and making the trip to several places throughout the city, such as SAPA (San Antonio Pets Alive), Dress for Success, and Haven for Hope.
Donating makes everyone feel good, and Lorraine makes it easy.
Thank you, Lorraine!

GOT A NEIGHBOR YOU WANT TO RECOGNIZE?
Remember that Neighbors don’t have to live next door, just someone who lives in Westcreek. It could be as simple as a mom who helps out by picking up a child from school. Or a neighbor who cuts your yard for you just because, or brings in your trash cans. Does not have to be a grand gesture just something that made your life easier, made you happy, or was just thoughtful. If you would like to recognize their good deeds and show your appreciation, please submit your recommendation by a deadline of the 20th day of the month prior to publication; to: frontoffice@villagesofwestcreek.com.

Is your medicine cabinet full of expired drugs or medications you no longer use? Your medicine is for you, and what’s safe for you might be harmful to someone else. The best way to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused medicines is through a drug take-back program.
The Walgreens Pharmacy at Grosenbacher and Potranco has a Safe Medication drop-off box in the Pharmacy waiting area.

PROPER FLAG RETIREMENT
On June 14th we celebrate National Flag Day. Do you have a flag that you recently retired due to it being tattered, faded, or worn? If so, the local Boy Scout troop has a flag retirement box located in the homeowners' association office. You can drop your flag off in the box during regular business hours for it to be properly retired. The troop picks up the flags every few months. So please don’t throw old worn-out flags out, bring them in and drop them off. The box is located in the lobby just inside the front door.

WATER TIPS FOR BETTER EFFICIENCY | |
|
There is no universal formula for how much to water. Multiple factors affect what YOUR specific garden, landscape, or turf, needs. These factors may include the type of plants or a variety of turf, how much sun the area receives or how hot your specific microclimate might be, whether you have a sloping landscape where water tends to run off quickly, and whether it has rained recently.
Signs You Need to Water (but not always)
- Plants look wilted (feel soil first…wilt can just be heat stress, and plants may pop back up in the morning; if they don’t, then water).
- Leaves may become curled or crispy and brown at the tips.
- Turf does not ‘spring back’ when walked on, footprints are left indented.
- You have newly planted plants that need to be watered more until their roots have grown and extended as far as established plants.
Watering Tips
- Water in the mornings if you can.
- Water slower and deeper, but less frequently. This teaches plants to rely on their roots to search for moisture in the soil.
- Water roots and drip lines of plants. Eliminate overhead watering that lands on leaves and evaporates quickly. Use sprinklers for turf and drip irrigation or soaker hoses for garden beds.
- Double-check that your sprinklers aren’t watering hard surfaces like a sidewalk, patio, or fence.
Extra Water-Saving Tips
- Don’t buy water-guzzling plants. Research native plants that can handle periods of drought once established.
- Buy a rain gauge so you know exactly how much rain your landscape receives.
Extra, Extra Tips for Watering Efficiency
- Weed often. Weeds steal moisture and nutrients from your plants. They are easier to pull out when they are young.
- Mulch plants (but leave space around trunks of trees and around stems and crowns of shrubs and perennials. Make a donut out of mulch, not a volcano).
- Most soil will benefit and hold more moisture when amended with compost (can usually skip this if planting native).
