Work will generally occur Monday through Friday during daytime hours (6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). Intermittent lane closures will take place in work zones, with at least one lane remaining open to traffic at all times.

At times, this work may be loud or cause minor increases in dust and vibration. Traffic delays are expected. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time to reach their destinations or use alternate routes, if possible.

All construction is dynamic and the schedule is subject to change. Click on the Google Map above for the most up-to-date scheduled closures and available detour routes.

Work is underway to widen Holt Boulevard between Central Avenue and Corona Avenue to accommodate the new center-running Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes. Intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures may take place to facilitate this work, at least one lane will remain open on Holt Boulevard at all times.

• Central Avenue to Mountain Avenue: Starting as early as mid-May, crews will perform work to demolish the center medians at the intersections of Holt Boulevard and Benson Avenue and Holt Boulevard and Mountain Avenue. This work will take place during daytime hours (6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and will require lane closures at the respective work locations. At least one lane in both directions of Holt Boulevard will remain open at all times.

• Mountain Avenue to Euclid Avenue: Starting as early as Monday, May 13, crews will switch traffic south to create a protected work zone along westbound (WB) Holt Boulevard between Mountain Avenue and Euclid Avenue. Two lanes will be maintained in each direction of Holt Boulevard in this segment of the project.

• Euclid Avenue to Corona Avenue: Crews have performed a traffic switch to create a protected work zone in this segment of the project. Work within these protected zones will include reconstruction of driveways, curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Please see section below for additional information.

• Parking Restrictions: "No Parking" signage has been placed in areas along Holt Boulevard between Central Avenue and Corona Avenue as crews prepare to shift traffic and place k-rail throughout the corridor to accommodate roadway widening. Once traffic is shifted, street parking on Holt Boulevard will be eliminated.

• Omnitrans Bus Service: WB Omnitrans Route 61 is detouring on Holt Boulevard. Three bus stops are closed including Cucamonga Avenue at Holt Boulevard, Allyn Avenue at Holt Boulevard, and Campus Avenue at Holt Boulevard. Please use temporary bus stops located at Allyn Avenue and Holt Boulevard and Campus Avenue at Willow Avenue. For additional information regarding Omnitrans bus service, please visit Omnitrans.org.

NEW TRAFFIC PATTERNS ALONG 

HOLT BOULEVARD

In the coming weeks, drivers will notice new traffic patterns along Holt Boulevard between Central Avenue and Corona Avenue. To facilitate roadway widening, crews will switch traffic south to create a protected work zones along WB Holt Boulevard.

Work within these zones may include:

• Removing and reconstructing driveways, curbs and sidewalks
• Roadway excavation, paving and striping
• Removing and constructing of water and storm drain improvements
• Installing street light poles and modifications to traffic signals
• Landscaping and irrigation

Two lanes will be maintained in each direction of Holt Boulevard during this time; however, street parking in this segment of the project corridor will be eliminated permanently. 

The protected work zones along WB Holt Boulevard will be in place for approximately 10 months. Construction activities will generally occur during daytime hours (6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), with intermittent nighttime work (6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.)

Once work is complete along WB Holt Boulevard, all lanes will shift north to the newly constructed roadway and crews will perform the same work in the opposite direction to accommodate the widening of eastbound Holt Boulevard.

Crews will continue construction activities at the Pomona Transit Center in order to accommodate project improvements. Work will take place in the southern loop of the transit center and will include hard removals and utility work. Construction at this location will be ongoing for several weeks.

The West Valley Business Connector Program is designed to encourage the community to shop local during project construction. Participation is free for eligible businesses in the project corridor.

The West Valley Connector (WVC) project will be a 100% zero-emission Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, the first stage of the San Bernardino County zero-emission Bus Initiative and second BRT route in San Bernardino County.

Phase I of the project is 19 miles and will upgrade a portion of existing Route 61 which runs along Holt Boulevard, adding approximately 3.5 miles as center-running, dedicated bus-only lanes. There will be 21 stations in Phase I that will provide an improved transit connection to Ontario International Airport (ONT) and help build transit connectivity by linking ONT, two Metrolink lines (San Bernardino and Riverside) and multiple major activity centers along the route including Ontario Mills and Victoria Gardens. Headways will be 10 minutes in the peak commute period and 15 minutes off-peak, providing a high level of service to the community.
