WEST PIKELAND SAVES BY GOING GREEN

Have you ever wondered exactly where your electricity is coming from? For both the municipality and our many residents, PECO is the electric distribution company. However, it is not necessarily the electricity supplier. All electricity must be generated somewhere, whether it be by gas, hydroelectric, solar, wind, or nuclear. PECO fills the role of distributing that power to its many customers. And while those customers have little say in PECO as their distributor, they can freely choose where that electricity comes from. That's right! We can choose our own suppliers, potentially saving a great deal on our monthly electric bills! Our township has recently done just so. By switching to a new, 100% renewable energy power supplier, West Pikeland will be saving hundreds of dollars each year in electricity costs!

If you too are interested in saving on electricity - and switching to renewable energy generation while you're at it - look no farther than https://www.papowerswitch.com/. PAPowerSwitch provides you with many energy suppliers to choose from, allowing you to shop around and cut those electric bills!

Preparations for America 250 Highlight Newly Restored Water Wheel @ The Mill at Anslema

On Saturday, July 13th, 2024, the Mill at Anselma celebrated the completion of the waterwheel restoration with a ribbon cutting ceremony. This milestone was achieved by the enormous support of the Mill's donors, volunteers, and the restoration team from Martin Dustless Blasting, The Carboline Company, and James Hudson Painting. This restoration is a great starting point in the preparation for the celebration of America 250.

The Mill at Anselma, originally named the Lightfoot Mill after its founder, Samuel Lightfoot,

featured its initial wooden water wheel. In 1906, Miller Allen Simmers upgraded to a durable

metal wheel from the Fitz Water Wheel Company. Following a restoration in 2001-2002, the

water wheel has once again been refurbished this year (2024), ensuring its operational integrity for the next 20+ years. This ongoing restoration underscores the Mill's commitment to preserving its historic heritage and functionality.

About the Mill

The Mill at Anselma, established in 1747, predates the United States by nearly half a century. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 2005, it operates today as an independent, non-profit historic site located along Pickering Creek in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. Spanning 22 acres, the site showcases Chester County’s industrial history across nearly three centuries.

Original Colonial-Era power trains and industrial equipment from the late 1700s to the mid-

1900s are preserved on site. Open to the public, the Mill offers educational and entertaining

events on weekends from April through December at 1730 Conestoga Road, Chester Springs.

Pictured on the photo: The ribbon cutter is Allyn Greeney, primary project donor. The

background people in the photo (L to R) are volunteer Mike Leader, Mill Chairman Ernie Holling, Miller Dave Rollenhagen and project manager Matthew Roberson of R&B Historic Construction.
