Greetings!
A couple of recent articles struck me this last week: One talking about business leaders getting together and sending a list of actions needed to keep the USA competitive in the global economy. The second is about the rcommendation that we tell Univeristy students what they can expect if they successfully complete a degree program in their discipline. That is brought me to the subject of this mail (Well.....DUH!). IT'S ABOUT TIME.
It is about competitiveness if we are to keep the standard of living we have earned. Tight money, scarce skills, and increased requlation being the norm, we need an approach in which we can believe. We have to be able to grow productivity using mainly our current personnel, with only the cash we generate from the business, while growing volume and quality...all simultaneously. That means TOOLING DIFFERENTLY.
- Advanced tools so our skilled people accomplish more and do it more easily
- Flexible integrated designs to produce more varied product in the same space.
- Investment paybacks on the order of a year (vs. 2-3 years)
These are the things that WE can do to control our own destiny. Again, we are going to have to do this ourselves. There is no reasonable case that suggests the government is going to come to the rescue anytime soon or that they even can. Would you really want that in any case?
